seems to me there was agreement amongst those that commented, but yes, let's put it to a vote, since games will be played before we know it. or we could propose you cannot draft anyone who has played in the majors at the time of the draft. it's suppossed to be a "prospect" draft

Can you state the proposal you'd like us to vote on?

if we can get everyone together before the season opens, not counting the Australia games maybe, the proposal is two rounds of anyone who has never been carded and never appeared in a major league game. if it slides to june after our regular draft, I propose we stipulate you still cannot draft anyone who has played in the majors.

How about non-carded players who have rookie status at the beginning of the season?

I would not base a prospect's value on what he does in April, May or even June. Anyone remember Bryan LaHair? Awesome April player.... and that was about it!

We would also be disqualifying guys who were September call ups.

I say keep it simple. Rookie status as of Opening Day 2014.

For reference, the current rule reads as follows:

"2) Effective with the 2012 season, we will hold a prospect draft after the annual free agent draft, with managers drafting up to 2 prospects per year -- prospects are those players who have never received a card yet and draft sequence will be random and serpentine."

1. MEAT - Yes
2. tcochran - No - I agree with Jay that early results in the current season are not always great predictors of success

Here's the first round from June...you think these picks would have been the same April first?! Puig didn't make the roster, we didn't know if profar would fit in, who knew what Ryu would do, Shelby miller was already spectacular for the cardinals. jose Fernandez?! it gives an unfair advantage to those who get high draft picks in the prospects. some people go with the spirit of it and draft minor league studs and projected future stars, but if you wait until June, a lot of mystery is gone. many of the first round players would go high in the first round of our normal free agent draft, which is based on reverse standings.

I drafted Ryu in the 1st rd of the prospect draft last year in the Pre-Card Keeper League, about the time that Spring training was starting -- and then in another league, drafting later, my 1st rd pick was Hunter Morris. Good or bad picks can be made any time of the year!

Would there be less concern if our FA draft began om May 1 instead of June 1?

3. JMP1 - No - I took Profar with the 1st pick. And his 2013 card is unlikely to make the 25 man roster.
