For whatever it is worth, even though I benefitted by getting Puig, I always preferred the idea of drafting guys who have not played yet. The easiest way to do that would be to draft before the next major league season begins. So, I guess I vaguely agree with Meat on this one. If you recall, I talked about this when we originally discussed prospect drafts, the concern that it would gut the FA draft the following year. I think that has been borne out.

Proposal from Meat:

if we can get everyone together before the season opens, not counting the Australia games maybe, the proposal is two rounds of anyone who has never been carded and never appeared in a major league game. if it slides to june after our regular draft, I propose we stipulate you still cannot draft anyone who has played in the majors.

I'm in several keeper leagues and they all have prospect drafts.

While we sometimes know a few prospects who had been already were promoted and were on the way to good cards in 2013, we still have no idea how they will perform in the long run.

Puig, Ryu, and other rookies may never see seasons like last season. Puig could bat .200. Ryu could have Tommy John, Profar could breakout this year, Tavares may be the best hitter of all 2013 prospects and he has not seen a MLB AB.

If there is an advantage it is for the first season. No one can predict what happens later.

I took Profar over Puig. I would do the same today. If you think I'm crazy revisit the pick in 3 - 5 years.

Yes, as it stands right now, I have 3 keeper drafts starting in June and July. Moving this one to a draft start date of May 1 would work for me.
