4- or 5-team option

PostThu Apr 03, 2014 12:03 am

I think the 6-team option is a good one. However, I'd like to see an option to take it a step further: the 4- or 5-team option.

Here's how it would work. When forming a league, you have the option to fill the league with one or two "expansion" teams. These teams would be drafted and run by HAL. Also, the salary cap would be 20 million less than the human teams. We really don't want HAL actually winning one of these leagues!

Now I know this idea sounds crazy, but look at two advantages:

1. It would be even easier to get a league going since you could have three of six slots filled as soon as the league is launched.

2. Most managers would have a winning record since there would be two patsies in the league.

Would I be able to fool Hal into trading his Maury Wills for, oh say, Buddy Biancalana and cash, or would I have to throw in a free subscription to Robots in Swimsuits to seal the deal?

I know your post is a joke, but as I envision how this would be implemented, HAL's picks would come after everyone else has drafted. So, HAL would probably never get the coveted 60s Maury Wills card. (Then again, in my last 60s league nobody drafted Sandy Koufax because they assumed a few others would list him at number one.)

So, advantage #3 to this concept: You are more likely to get the players you want.
