Giving away five free credits a month is a nice gesture by SOM. However, why not modify things a bit...
Give away three random credits.
Give one credit away each month to someone who makes significant, positive contributions to the forums--essentially a contributor of the month.
Give one credit away to someone for advancing the game. It could be someone who is running a couple of successful theme leagues. It could be someone who helps organize one of the tournaments. It could be someone who makes an original suggestion that gets adopted. It could simply be someone who buys a record number of credits in a month.
Alternatively, SOM could continue to give away the five monthly random credits, but do these additional two awards once a quarter.
