So if we ONLY declare people like that, it would be better than declaring our 23 people draft card (minus the plus 2).

Even with all this, I STILL don't like the rule that people can be claimed that are TECHNICALLY owned by another franchise.

And the A's * ARE * taking Lajoie - his highest card is nearly 2 million higher than his Cleveland card.

I'm not sure what "rule" you are referring to.

My first "rule" was the following:

a. A player belongs to the franchise with highest card value for that player. For example, The SF Giants would "own" Barry Bonds, and he could not be selected by the Pirates.

Let's use Mark McGwire as an example, he is owned by the Cards, he should not be selected by the A's. If for some reason the Cards decide not to select McGwire, he could be picked up by the A's after the waiver draft - and if so, they can use one of his A's years.

Yes, but then you are saying if I don't pick Barry Bonds, the owner of the Pirate can take him. I'm "NOT ALL THAT FOND" of that rule. I accept it but I don't like it.

As in

d. Any player, with multiple team cards, that is not chosen by the franchise he has the highest value card for would be available to another franchise he has a card for - after the waiver draft. The thought on "after the waiver draft" is to allow for corrections of any erroneous selections.

For example, if the Cardinals franchise passes on using Joe Torre, he can be picked up after the waiver draft by the Braves franchise, but could only use his Braves card.

So if I understand your interpretation, using McGwire as an example, if you are the Cards franchise and decide not to use him, the A's should not be allowed to use him, because he had the highest value card with the Cards and was owned by them and only them?

Maybe I should have written in "rule a" that you "owned the initial rights to select" him, not "owned" him (where he couldn't be used by another franchise if you didn't keep him). But I figured "rule d" clarified the situation.

Sorry for not being more clear with what I meant earlier. i was just meant that for those limited number of players who had good cards with more than one franchise it might be less stressful to list beforehand who you plan on "owning". I was in a league previously with rules similar to this one and one of the managers drafted a player for which he did not have the highest value card but, maybe because he listed the player higher on his pre-draft card, HAL awarded the player to him. He claimed that the rightful owner must not have wanted the player and therefore that was why HAL gave the player to him. The situation was eventually resolved but not before a few nasty messages went back and forth.

I think in any case, if someone drafts someone - who by the letter of the law being that the player is owned by the guy who owns his most expensive card - he just sends a public e-mail out to the league - "Hey, I'm sending you a trade for Nappy, approve it or die" - then the commish will police this action and make sure that it happens.

But just to keep the Indians honest - ;) - he's going #1 on my draft list.......

If you don't care about the other guy who took your player because you don't want him - that's okay too.

These are the nuances that ruin these theme leagues for me. If any one once to steal a player. Then go for it and ruin the league
