Yes, after opening day any available player can be selected as a free agent.

For example, let's say the Reds decide during the preseason or the regular season to cut Frank Robinson. Then, any team could pick him up as long as they don't carry more than 3 free agents. Also, since F. Robinson has cards in the 60s to both the Reds and the Orioles, either the Orioles or the Reds could pick him up as a non-free agent. Also, if the Reds trade Frank to the Dodgers he would count as one of the Dodger's free agents. If the Reds trade Robinson to the Orioles, let's say for Milt Pappas (I know, that's a ridiculous trade that no actual GM would ever make) then Robinson would not be a free agent on the Orioles but (strangely) Pappas would count as a free agent on the Reds because Pappas only has cards for the Orioles and Braves.

Finally, keep in mind that only cards in the 60s count. Cards from 1959 and 1970 don't count in determining whether a player is a free agent.

One other clarification - if a player is carded to a team in the league for at least one year from the 60's and all his other 60's years are from teams not in the league, then effectively exclusive rights belong to the team in the league thru preseason. He can't be a free agent pick up by anyone until after the season starts, if available.

An example would be Duke Snider, carded to LA (in the league) and NYM (not in the league) - so LA has rights thru preseason....he can't be drafted in the 3 round draft. And there would be no need for LA to pick him in the 3 round draft, they can get him in the auto draft or preseason, with no risk of losing him.

Is that an accurate representation of the set up?
