The rules of this league do not allow preseason pick ups of free agents. One of the owners has pointed out that this rule might create a frenzy for free agents after the first series of games are played. I don't think that it will be a problem, but if it does turn out to be a problem, we'll change the rule for the 70s, 80s and 90s.

It looks to me that the cap is forcing the higher value teams to avoid the higher priced free agents. The Dodgers passed over Dick Allen and Reggie Jackson to take Dick Green. My hope is that the current rules encourage owners to try to keep their own players first and then look for free agents when their own players are on bad years. Although some teams like the Senators and Angels are likely to need free agent help from the start.

As far as the Dodgers go, my projected starting pitching rotation of 4 is 29M+. Filling out the rest of my roster with all Dodgers (I may be missing a few, but I got most of them) puts me so close to the cap that a hitter doesn't make sense. It also left me with a 3 or 4 at second base, not to mention ones without the offensive upside. Hence, Dick (F'n) Green.

Ya think so??

It does appear that I will likely end up with cash to spare after I fill my roster, even with the free agent selections. But I still feel that I will have a somewhat competitive team. [The Angels actually finished in third place (out of ten teams) in their second season (1962) of existence].

Everyone just beware!! Forget murderer's row - I have Killebrew/Ken McMullen/Paul Casanova and a staff led by Casey Cox and Dick Bosman. I would predict a perfect 162-0 season but with games like these you never know. I will back my prediction down to 140-22.

With a 20% hit my roster is going to set before opening day. I don't see making many moves unless I have to!
