I haven't played any ATGVII before but I recall with earlier sets that you needed to cut the player and then pick up whichever season you preferred for the player. I'm wondering if that's still the way it's done in ATG.
Actually you need to wait until after waivers because before waivers just announcing your intentions is not going to prevent anyone from putting them on their waiver card. In fact it almost guarantees it.

They did years ago. After waivers if you want to change the year of a player, you don't actually cut him. You click to drop him then switch to the year you want within the free agent list. No one else can see what your doing or see who your upgrading as you do it.
