Trout

PostThu Jun 05, 2014 9:40 am

Mike Trout is a great talent. However, is he worth the 12.25/m. I have him in AT&T. Park. Since he chews up so much salary I was just wanting any opinions from those who have used him what they thought his value was.

Thanks,
Dale

I've used McCutcheon in AT&T. Wouldn't use Trout, not cost efficient-you lose too much BP homeruns

Fasle,

Look There is a reason he costs that much, the combination of hitting, power, defense and OBP.

Look you're going to lose BP HR's and pretty much any hitter you get to anchor your lineup. Same would go if you choose Miggy, or CarGo, or Holliday. That isn't an excuse, that is what you deal with when choosing a pitchers park.

Here are 2 very different strategies for a pitchers park, that is working in the same league:

Pure pitching, easily the top era/whip/etc in the league: http://onlinegames.strat-o-matic.com/team/1129775
A lot of hitting, but let the park effects help keep the pitching in line. Team is #1 in runs, by 130 over #2: http://onlinegames.strat-o-matic.com/team/1129754

These are 2 pitching park teams in one league. Many different ways to skin a cat.

The question is whether Trout is worth the extra payroll and you lose that difference at AT&T
Of course you lose the BP homers with everyone, but with Trout you are losing a greater amount of his cost.
The stats do support my comment. trout 5 for 28 in BP HRs.

McCutcheon went 3 for 15 for me. another high cost mutli tool player, but cheaper

I think we will differ on this.

I use the ratings guide, and I just look at the overall production. His OB, and most importantly TB, plus hits and defense make him one of the better hitter, even in a pitchers park. Yes McCutchen is a better value that Trout, I will give you that. But McCutchen may not be available to him. Also, when 2 player rate very similar (as those 2 do) I tend to go with the one that is better vs RHP, since you tend to see about 70% RHP overall.

Agree geekor, Trout .the best player in the set. Now, whether or not you can afford him, well, that's up to the individual

Not disagreeing that Trout is the best card here...although part of me leans toward Cabrera. However, based on how McCutchen has done for my team and others, I would also take McCutchen and the extra 2 mil over Trout.

I was merely comparing CF. I would put Miggy as the best card (based purely off hitting) as well. Of course the last 3 times... Donaldson for my #1 pick... sigh.

I would take Miggy anywhere especially since 2013 was a down year for big sluggers.

I wasn't implying Trout isn't better. In a hitters park with a lot of RHP I would spend the extra for Trout over McCutcheon. He is the better value in that scenario.
