Sports Movies/Baseball Movies and Lonnie Chisenhall

PostTue Jun 10, 2014 12:56 pm

I know a lot of people want an off-topic and a MLB baseball forum, so I thought i'd provide a doubleheader thread that addresses both.

Firstly, what do people think about Chisenhall's beastly season so far and, in particular, his beastly game he had last night where he went 5-for-5, with 3 home runs and 9 rbi's? In 51 games, he has 7 hrs, 32 rbis, and a line of .385/.429./.615. Is he going to go on to produce a '12-Moss-worthy card, slide back into becoming a solid regular, or return to his previous mediocre player status?

For the second half of the post: Awhile ago we had a "Best Sports Movies Names" thread, but we haven't had a best Sports Movies or Best Baseball Movies thread in awhile. So, I'm inviting posters to post their favorite and/or best Sports or Best Baseball movies on the thread. I'll post my ten best Sports movies list to start:

1. Raging Bull
2. The Bad News Bears (The Original)
3. Rocky
4. Bull Durham
5. Downhill Racer
6. Caddyshack
7. Field of Dreams
8. The Longest Yard (Definitely the Burt Reynolds one)
9. Happy Gilmore
10. Major League

Not in any particular order but:

Invincible
Rudy
The Natural
Field of Dreams
Bull Durham
The Rookie
Hoosiers
Eight Men Out
Tin Cup
Friday Night Lights

In light of the U.S. Open returning to Pinehurst this week, where Payne Stewart won his second Open I believe - I wonder why there's never been an attempt at a movie about him, to my knowledge anyway. Maybe the family hasn't given permission or something to that effect?? I know Golf Channel is airing a special about him this week - but I was only referring to some sort of theatrical movie.

I remember talking to a young adult about sports movies and mentioning Brian's Song. I tried to explain that it was about the friendship between Gale Sayers and Brian Piccolo (sp?), and after I finished, I got "Who's Gale Sayers?"

Sigh.

Great post! I wanted to post something about Lonnie Chisenhall. As an Indians fan, I am over the moon excited about the season Chisenhall is having and the Tribe's chances to make the playoffs in back to back seasons. If Chisenhall keeps this up he is going to have one hell of a card next year. Michael Brantley is also having a great/ breakout season.

My Favorite Baseball Movies
:

1. The Bad News Bears (original)
2. Money Ball
3. Eight Men Out
4. 42 The Jackie Robinson Story
5. The Natural
6. Major League
7. Bull Durham
8. The Rookie
9. The Sandlot

Best Football Movies:
1. Invincible
2. Rudy
3. Any Given Sunday
4. The Replacements
5. The Longest Yard

Forgot to add that other "football related" special - The O.J. Simpson/Fugitive Run Through Downtown Los Angeles!

What great entertainment that was!!!
