I think some of you are going a little overboard. Unlike Roy Hobbs, Ricky Vaughn, and Bugs Bunny, the Cuban and Japanese players are real people. They played the game at a high level...higher than Dwight's JV squad anyway. These are good ball players, most of who would have likely been able to compete in MLB if given the opportunity. Just like the NeL players.

That's not to say that I don't get it. I understand why the (vast) majority would prefer to play with a pool limited to MLB players. That is not unreasonable. And I'm a bit baffled that Strat couldn't see this reaction coming a mile away, even though they clearly are just trying to inject something fresh and exciting into the game.

I think BDWard is definitely on the right track in proposing what amounts to customized pools, where you can start a league and decide what players/groups of players to include or exclude. There is absolutely no reason not to have this capability in 2014.

But to put these players on par with cartoon characters is disingenuous and a little ridiculous. They are by all accounts magnificent ball players who did not have the opportunity that some others like Ichiro and Darvish have gotten. Those guys are pretty good, no?

Suzuki was great, as were many other Japanese players who made the transition to the bigs, so how can you say that any Japanese star would not be up to the MLB standard? They obviously are.
I know far less about he Cuban players, but I think the same logic holds.

Add to this the fact that both Cuba and Japan were self segregated, which means, unlike minor league or independent leagues, they wouldn't join the bigs. But you know darn well, some of them could have played well in the Bigs.

Good players are good players.

I realize that this community is heavily traditionalist, but I wish y'all would be a bit more open minded.

Don't know what "open minded" has to do with wanting to only play with MLB cards based actual statistic results.

Adding the Cuban League and Japanese League players is a complete farce. I agree with others that this equates to fictional characters.

I bet Charlie Brown's pitching card is terrible.

Adding Japanese and Cuban cards is beyond stupid and makes me question the thinking ability of SOM management. I will not mind these additions if a card will be included for my past slow pitch softball season. The fun is playing with the former All time great players that I grew up reading about and watching. At least with several of the negro league players I had heard of them and realize there were some truly great players. Orestes Destrade hit home runs like crazy in Japan and then hit like 20 one year for the Marlins. Please at least include an option to play in leagues without these players. P.S. Is a card of Nuke Laloosh too much to ask for?

I'd bet Charlie Sheen (Wild Thing) and Kevin Costner (Several baseball movies) have appeared more often on MLB fields during filming than most of these new players.

Richman has almost completely washed his hands of the online game...and None of the other programmers play it...they are as out of touch as can be with the ATG community....It doesn't mean they're bad guys, just clueless about their customers.
