Guys, they're not going to change the game engine much. And there just aren't any more $15 million cards out there - unless maybe in Japan or Cuba. There are some nice cards here, though. Some of the badly overpriced (and underpriced) cards have been adjusted, so the card set will be more newbie friendly. Many players have been given cards for their best seasons, including Sutton, Seaver, and Kevin Brown (still no Fregosi or Saberhagen though). Off the top of my head we will get good cards for Clemente, Murcer, Doerr, Yaz, Kaline, King Kelly, George Stone, and Bob Elliott. Over 300 new hitters and 200 new pitchers.

As far as identifying the new cards, in the past they have always tagged the new cards in the last workbook column at the end of the data. I see no reason why they wouldn't do that again.

Did they fix the R4 and R5 over-usage problem?

Why Murcer? We already have his BEST card and 2 others. We DO NOT NEED a 4th!!! This would make me believe that this addition without a doubt takes away an addition that was requested. I am NOT too happy about this. It's like coming to a fork in the road...do I go left and it leads to SOM Nirvana or right to Disappointed Road? That's EASY! SOM dangles the carrot so we go right to Disappointed Road. I sure hope I am SO wrong!

Cannot help remembering life under TSN. They would have spent the 2 weeks prior to the launch with teasers of new features and cards. This tended to result in much discussion on the boards and would build anticipation and excitement about the new game version.

I kind of wish they would stop adding cards. I keep all of the players on a spread sheet sorted by position and $$ to make it easier to assemble my teams. And everytime they come out with a new set I have to redo the entire spreadsheet!! GRRR...

Just lazy I guess...bring on the new set!! :)

Did they also fix the 4-man rotation problem with the S9*'s, where you can throw 4 guys each for 300+ innings, as Mr. Foster is so fond of? Ah no, he must have somehow forgotten to ask for that "glitch" to be remedied. Yes, we must fix the "glitch" that his opponents use but ignore the oh-so-realistic way he constructs his pitching staffs, an approach that hasn't been used in MLB for about the last 50 years.

Last time I looked, this is ATG. There needs to be a harmonious integration of strategies used in the various eras of baseball.

As far as changes to the engine go, I would like to see the "do not hit vs. x" hitter "strategy" actually work. Ditto for the "do not relieve before y" pitcher strategy.

If one wants to kill the r4/r5 strategy, just don't join leagues with the dh. HAL would much rather pinch hit with a .50m scrub than keep Murray in the game even if he is set for everything except lefty or righty specialist.

I'm hoping for about 500 new cards, new pricing and the aforementioned engine tweaks. Not sure at all why the park poll was undertaken, they could have added all the parks they wanted to, no? Be nice if they reintroduced the manager ratings, I particularly miss the stats of how your teams performed per cap and per ballpark. The teasers were an interesting touch. SOM seems to now be more mindful of giving us some of what we ask for, as their past failures to do so have resulted in greatly reduced sales. I fear the real teaser has already been given, that we will get an update to ATG that will be meaningful and restore community interest in the game. Unfortunately, I'm wagering on some sort of debacle, a slapdash effort to toss us a few bones as they did with ATG VI.2, which they brazenly sold as ATG VII.

Yes, but 300 IP cost !0K for Walter Johnson and 5K for Dale Murray. However, I have no problem with no SP*, all though it was used for the first 60 years of baseball. I would gladly give it up if they would fix the RP.
