60's team with 104 wins and 0 Sbs

PostFri Jun 27, 2014 11:27 pm

Speed and defense is definitely a valid approach for a winning 60's team. This recent team of mine, the Blue Panthers, definitely took a different one with not one stolen base all year. Like my other 100-win teams, though, they still could see an early playoff exit:

Congratulations on a fine season. I also played recently in a sixties player set league and finished as a runner up. I thought that the team I drafted of the four online leagues I've played was my best. Even though they won only 89 games during the
regular season I thought this team had the potential to be a 100+ win team.

It just goes to prove, that you don't have to go cheap on pitching and defense to get a good offense. Be interesting to see
what cards you drew ! It looks like our philosophy in building a team our similar, except I emphasize a little more speed on the base paths ! Good luck in the upcoming playoffs.

PS I simulated my above mentioned team on the CD ROM version (Version 11.04a) against 23 other teams from the 2005
season that were redrafted and they won 102 games ! I manually inputted the online team. (Need to upgrade the CD ROM
version I guess).

Thank you, and congratulations to you for winning 89 games in your first (I assume) 60's league. The 60's league does have a shallow talent pool which can be vexing, but you definitely do not have to give up pitching or defense to get good offense...although I definitely gave up speed. One thing that helped me, which I usually practice in the 60's, is spending low at 2b and SS. Moran and Brinkman both gave me excellent defense, and Brinkman gave me some solid offense, too.

Good luck in your future leagues, and I hope to see you in a league sometime.

Thanks, Radagast. We should play in a Mystery Games league soon; contact me the next time you're in a new one.

I will, I am almost always up for a 70s, 80s, or 90s league!

Update: The Blue Panthers got swept in the finals. I have to hope my next 80-99 win playoff 60's team does better.
