I'm fascinated by the idea of somebody like Orta at 2B. Groat at SS also seems interesting. The freed up cash at say 80M could be put into elite players elsewhere.

Groat, for example, was a starter on a World Champ in 1964. The thought that his bulletproof card is available for .5M+ is really tempting. So far I haven't had the guts to try it, but it's tempting. Also, bulletproof Tony Taylor's 2B card at .58M. Food for thought...

If you put a 2 with a plus arm in CF and win, it's a brilliant plan.

If you lose 100 games, the plan sucks.

Don't forget this is All Time Greats etc. I think the lineups and pitching will make up for one or two percieved shortcomings on a player in CF, 2B, SS C etc. Those are the so called 'defense first' positions. These lineups are unreal offensively, especially at the high Sal Cap end.

I would agree with many of the points made here and especially so with Valen's observations; the presence of so many "1" ratings skews our thoughts about defense. A "2" is still above average.

As for throwing ratings, I would suggest it would depend on seeing your division opponents post-draft. If you're in with a couple of teams with jackrabbits at many positions, you might want to avoid an outfield full of Venus de Milo guys whatever their offensive talents. If you're facing some station-to-station lumberers, the arms might mean little.

I've got a team starting tonight with 2-4's and a 3 in the OF. Could be ugly :D. http://onlinegames.strat-o-matic.com/team/1381870

Well, I'll get a birds eye view of this, as we're in the same division

The most overrated defensive rating is outfielders' arms' rating. I know some guys get a woody about a (-5) in RF or CF, but I saw a study long ago by someone here on the boards that suggested outfielders' arms really do not factor in as much as you would think. I would rather have a guy with great range than a great arm in the outfield. Just my three cents, but I am not alone in thinking this way...

Now that's a defense I can love, Tim. :ugeek: Dave Henderson has been my favorite CF for a while, and I already love the new ManRam card and never shy away from 4s in the outfield. Heck, I used Hank Greenberg in left on a successful team not too long ago.

Hey Tim! Nice team. That's the first time I've really looked a Fregosi's card. I'm guessing you hope there's a man on 2nd instead of first when he's up. :o
