Just had dinner with my folks in a rest home. Only you guys may appreciate this. I sat with Jean shore, daughter in law of Ernie Shore AND Rick Ferrell, nephew and namesake of the HOF catcher. Turns out Guilford College and Guilford Coounty, NC had several guys go straight to the bigs. Jean said Ernie Sr was old when she first met him, but she remembered him saying Babe would use his tooth brush. Also, people would write the Babe a $1 check in hopes he would endorse it. He'd just throw the checks in a drawer. Whenever any of his teammates needed something to eat they'd grab a check and forge Babes name.
