Picthing Question

PostThu Aug 07, 2014 12:30 pm

Can you get away with just 10 pitchers? Will it hurt your team? Also if i pick up a .50 relief pitcher, can I set it up to only use him in certain situations, etc. against certain batters and in blowouts? Thanks for helping. Coming back after a few years off and need some help.

Thanks again,

I have been in pitcher parks where I get 4 good SP* and 1 good RP and then use the other 5 spots for L/R match ups with success. Also in hitter parks where my starters aren't as good but I have 2 really good RP, 2 decent RP, and 2 others for L/R match ups. So you can get by with 10 but they have to be the right 10. If you have 5 SP it will be harder, or lots of .50 RP without starters going deep in games will hurt.

Absolutely. I usually carry only 10 pitchers in a DH league. I try to avoid .50 relief pitchers altogether and carry a .50 starter only instead so he stays in the bullpen where he can't hurt me. If you do I would suggest you have at least a strong R2 RP to eat up innings.

I would try to find S7 pitchers if you do go with 10 total. They'll last longer into games so you won't need as much in the bullpen.

Nothing wrong with 10 pitchers if you have a 4-man rotation, especially if you are in a DH league.

A lot of managers carry a .50 (.75 in mystery card leagues) starter-only so he doesn't come in to pitch ever. So, they are essentially going with 9 pitchers. And that's viable too. However, I prefer to get a starter/reliever for my fifth starter (assuming a 4-man rotation) and use him for mop-up duty.
