Creating a Highly Restrictive Player Set League

PostWed Aug 20, 2014 8:19 pm

Howdy folks, some of whom may remember me (fondly, or less so, or possibly quite a bit less so):

I'm checking in on the odd chance SOM might, once again, garner my business and had a question. From clicking around it appears that I might be able to whittle the absolutely horrendous number of cards available in ATG 8 (btw, who thinks that's a good idea...to offer 80 trillion cards...I don't get it) down to a more satisfying set. Still, the available whittling appears to be, at best, 1,000 cards in random, and huge chunks of years in time periods. What I want is the chance to whittle things down to, say, uh, MLB in 1956, with perhaps a splash of HOF cards similar to a set SOM put off a few years back.

In other words, I want, at most, 750 cards and most of them highly tied to one year of baseball history. I realize this request might represent the desires of a very, very low percentage of SOM purchasers, but idiosyncrasy is what SOM is all about, and, besides, this is all computer/online-based, so why not?

Any input/ideas/rants on whether such a small set is possible in SOM-2014? Would it be possible to get 12 owners who relished such limited choices? If so, I'd love to hear from them. Regardless, best to all...

I like the idea of customized player sets. You could have a player set with all the worst players in it. That would be awesome!

Probably the best way to do it is in a NL only pre-war (or some other combo of league/ERA), then get the right group who agrees to further restrictions in autodrafting. I have seen Tim (tkl), Kevin (PJMB) and a couple other old timers around who might be interested - if not, there's a few brave souls who would venture into this cauldron.

Thanks for the replies folks. I must admit I'd rather this be one of those ATGIII or IV things where we conjure a theme and fill a league in four or five hours. But's that not gonna happen these days, understood. Still, I see three responding here and myself makes four. Any chance eight others could join us?

btw, I'll throw a FB or email or such to a few other old-timers (Harry Lime, etc.) Perhaps we could get the band back together, although you know how tough that is.

I'm also interested in the one year idea, if you can make it work.

The only way I play ATG is with a theme that restricts the player pool. I would be interested. I will be out of town Labor Day weekend with no internet for what thats worth.

Heck, just play at the old $80M cap standard - that widdles down the set nicely ! ;)

24 team at $60M slices a bit more.

Can ATG4 still be selected when creating a team/league?
