You come across as an authority on the benefits of a ratings guide that you now say you never read.
Why am I not surprised.
First of all, BJ, you have to stop using phrases like "seem" and "you come across." All those indicate are
your personal biases, opinions, and perceptions. You know I don't respect you or think you're very bright, so you're getting nowhere by sharing them with me. Secondly, I
never said I was an authority on the "benefits of a ratings guide". I cogently and accurately argued that those who use them are
not complete strat players and do not win their championships on heir own. The face is cute by the way, why do I think there's quite a resemblance...
You base this on what some people say about what their experience with these guides were. How do you know, as the original poster states, that these guides don't have potential negative impacts? They might put to much emphasis in wrong areas regarding card evaluation, therefore could effect managers negatively.
This is a legitimate point. If the ratings guides suck, then the players using them
would be screwed. However, the SOM ratings guide is
definitely highly likely to be effective. They make the cards; they are
extremely likely to be producing accurate, effective guides. JoeTheJet, however, may be putting out a crappy product.
I wouldn't say that, but
you are definitely implying his ratings guide could very well suck, and that is unfortunate. The Last Druid uses JTJ's guide, do you think he has done terribly using it? I don't think so.
So, at least we
can agree that, if a player is using a
good ratings guide, then he is not a complete player and did not win his championships on his own. However, if he is using a
bad ratings guide, then he is still a partial player, but he is at a disadvantage to complete players. I'm cool with this. If you can show me that any of the ratings guides are bad, I will share my sympathies with their users.
I haven't read and evaluated these guides either so neither you nor I can speak of the potential impact on managers. Your entire argument on this subject is null and void if you base your opinion on hearsay.
This is just ridiculous. Accurate information gleaned from written texts or spoken insight is
not hearsay. It is
accurate information gleaned from written texts or spoken insight Everyday baseball fans draw useful information from scouting reports, history books, and newspapers. Almost
none of us see that information for itself. If I accurately and correctly read that ratings guides effectively assist managers in their player evaluations, then it was not hearsay. It was my receiving accurate truth. I am actually surprised you didn't know that.
