trying to lighten it up.
still thinking about his underrated thing. I find it hard because I know who is who. Don't really listen to the media. Seeing it took so long for Jim Rice to get into HOF the media underrated him?

However, if you didn't think it was about me, then why did you find it "hilarious" and "appropriate"?

And what have I been "defensive" about? Please enlighten me... ;)

Ive tried to enlighten you, it has proven fruitless.

In any case- should you want to show the gang that your knowledge of the game is anything more than empty talk- join the live draft tonight.

Awwww...........poor Salty is stuck again... :( Everytime I ask you to back up anything you say, you just wilt and give up.

I don't play ATG, Marko. I certainly wouldn't play with you and your motley crew. Feel free to join me in a Mystery League game anytime.

Thanks, Alk, I appreciate that. I hope people see now what I have to put up with.

As I said before, underrated can mean many things. The Jim Rice situation is a perfect example of how shifting values can make certain players unfairly underrated. Rice was unfortunate to become eligible for the HOF during the Steroid era. Therefore, many of his offensive achievements were unfairly compared to the inflated stats of the Roided bangers. Also, stoic African-American who weren't entirely friendly with the press also faced unfair estimations having nothing to do with their talent.

I'm extremely glad he was finally inducted.

Okay, you don't have to try and keep up with us, no problem. I might not mention how you came on the ATG forum and told all of the veterans you knew more than them about ATG.

I never said that. If you think I did, find the post where I did so and post it. Try to back up your statements for once, Marko.

That's what the show's about. How this big shot London surgeon (who has developed a fear of blood, though that subplot disappeared for a while) becomes a GP (Brit talk for general physician I think) in a small town on the southwest coast of England (in Cornwall if you know where that is). As a big shot, big city surgeon he could get away with being rude, condescending, etc., but as a GP in a small town, well, hilarity ensues.

Actually it's funny but not one of those over the top British comedies. More of a drama with funny bits. You end up liking the doctor, even though he acts like a jerk sometimes, because he's a great doctor who cares about the health of his patients, and there's a love interest who softens him up for a few minutes each season, and he's not rude, unfeeling, etc because he is in fact a jerk, he's just clueless about how the rest of the world works, people wanting to be happy and all that.

I think it's a great show that people should know about.

I'm new to this forum, have only posted a couple times. I admit I told Mr. Strether to chill out once, because he seemed to be getting hot under the collar. So I know who he is. But I really don't know anything about him other than the way he wrote in that one thread I was participating in, when he was going back and forth with someone else and things were getting personal and off topic. And frankly I don't care what he's like so long as he doesn't drag things off topic. (And of course it takes more than one person to drag things off topic.) I certainly didn't intend to take this thread off topic myself by somehow referring to him personally in a derogatory manner. I wanted to describe the show briefly. (Unlike the way I have here.)

The topic being great TV shows. I'm late to the party--most I would mention have already been mentioned. And with small kids I now mostly watch childrens' shows. Wild Kratz, a show about wild animals that combines solid facts with animated adventures, is great if you're four or five or six.

As for underrated ballplayers, I second the Anthony Rendon nomination. Jason Werth also doesnt get the praise he deserves. He plays within himself so well, doesn't try to hit the ball 500 feet even though he's strong enough to. Doesn't insult other players and make the game all about him--unlike that other guy I wont mention. No, I don't mean Mr. Strether--I mean the Nat's leftfielder, who's having to grow up in public.

I'm glad you chilled out, Mr. Bob,

Thanks for finally making your nominations after continuing to drag things off topic, yourself. As you know, I definitely agree with you on Rendon. I also appreciate your acknowledging that you, yourself, took things off topic with your first post when you did refer to me in a derogatory manner. As I told you before on the other thread, please tell me where I seemed "angry" (as you said). I asked you to do so on the other thread; you never replied. As someone who values equanimity, I would appreciate the input. Please do so on the other thread, though, as we don't want to take this thread off topic.

Not wanting to change the topic, but since I consider Game of Thrones quickly rising to the top of "great shows" this could possibly be the most epic 6 minute scene of a tv show.
