I like your list, though I would have Trammell a little higher and Ripken a little lower.

Ernie Banks spent roughly 9 years of his 19 MLB years as a SS. Roughly the same amount of time/game split that Robin Yount did between SS/OF. Banks should be considered a SS, in my book, as he won his two MVPs while at that position.

You're absolutely right about Banks playing 9 years at shortstop. That's why I included him on my list. When I said he "wasn't really a shortstop," I meant that he wasn't particularly good at it defensively; it wasn't his true position. All the other shortstops on my list, even Tejada, were solid defensively, so he didn't make it as high on my list as on yours.

Also, Vizquel's battings stats were better than Smith's, so I'm curious why you consider Ozzie the better hitter. If you have more advanced stats showing he was, please share them.
