Larkin also won the MVP in '95.

Something whatshisface only sniffed at.

Yes he did, and Jeter's stats are still superior. Many HOFers never won an MVP; it's hardly a prerequisite. Many non-HOFers, such as Jimmy Rollins, have won MVPs, and they won't get them into the HOF.

And you can say his name, Visick, he won't appear in a cloud of brimstone... ;)

162 Game averages

Derek Jeter: 20 years: 15-77-.310, 21 SB, career runs better than average 306. Career OPS .817

Barry Larkin: 19 years: 15-71-.291, 28 SB, career runs better than average 420. Career OPS .815

The area I will concede that there is a substantial advantage for Jeter is that he was far more durable during his career than Larkin, and that means a great deal to the HOF, too. Jeter, despite playing only 1 more season than Larkin, played in nearly 600 more games than Larkin. Well, a second area of concession for Jeter: He has a substantial post-season "careeer" of 158 games and Larkin appeared in 17. Jeter also had much better statistics in the post-season than he put up in the regular season, over a pretty big sample. Any player who can be better in the post-season than the regular season in a sample size that big deserves to be called a star, considering he is not feasting on the 5th starter of a 62-100 team or a 21-year old September call-up in the post-season.

I will amend my comment: Barry Larkin was as good as or better than Derek Jeter as an all-around player, except that Jeter was far more durable. If I was running a real-life team, I would take Jeter over Larkin solely because I would expect 150+ games of 162 from Jeter, and Larkin would be reliable for about 120.

As for most of the Yankees like Munson, O'Neill, Randolph, and Nettles, all were nice players, but if it weren't for Strat old time leagues, I don't give any of them a second thought among the greats of all-time or really, even of their eras. All were nice, solid players.

I'm fine with that. At least we both agree that the stats below show Jeter was a superior offensive player:

HR RbI R BA/OBP/SLG SB WAR

Jeter: 260 1307 1922 .310/.377/440 358 71.8

Larkin: 198 960 1329 .295/.371/.444 379 70.2

That was my point. Many people, like Olbermann, give them an inordinate amount of praise and credit just because they were Yankees who played for great Yankee teams. As I said above, Jeter is hardly the first Yankee to be over-adulated because he wears the pinstripes.

Offensive player, yes, slightly.

Overall, no.

No, hardly the first nor the last. Texas makes a lot of claims about biggest and best, but when it comes to media attention for almost anything, New York City and what comes out of it is "bigger and better" than pretty much anywhere else in the country.

Maybe him being at home and not in jail along with not juicing makes him great. Sad state of affairs for Baseball in general during that era.
