I really don't think the pre 1901 cards belong with the ATG. Maybe their own special set or something. As for myself, I've never used Duffy and probably never will.

I agree with Steve and share his sentiments on pre 1901 players. To me there is not a lot of difference between including Japanese, Cuban, and little league cards and including these 19th century cards.

Except, Hughie is in the HOF. And no matter how non legitimate I believe the cards from that era are it is hard for me to take a really hard line against them. And once they are in the set I am going to use them. After all I have on many occasions lobbied for having at least one card for every member in the HOF available to us. Plus for me too much of a competitive disadvantage if I select a subset of cards and ignore them when my opponents will not be.

Hughie made 66 errors in 1896. Unless there is huge normalization of that it will be problematic to start him anywhere but DH. Does not seem fair to normalize his errors and give him a rating as if he had a modern glove in the field and not adjust his BA and other numbers down as if the fielders on the other team had modern gloves.

He is or was last time I checked top vote getter though so not much question he will be among the new cards.

So predictions: How much does his error rating get adjusted? What do you think it will be?
Better yet, anyone have the 1896 season and can tell us what the ratings for that card were?

Wouldn't it have been cool if Strat had provided card images with ratings and prices for all players in the poll?

Dahlen is a 1e88 in 1896 and has been normalized to a 1e40. Jennings is also a 1e88, so he will probably be similar.

You are all aware that as it stands now only one pitcher will be added to the game (Rivera). We all know that pitching is like eating vegetables and hitting is like comfort food. If it were up to most of us, we'd be on a diet of pizza and chocolate sundaes. To hell with zucchini!

This non-addition of pitchers may have to do with the relatively strong pitching added in ATG8 a couple of months ago. But still, for those of you who haven't voted yet, do think about casting votes for a couple of hurlers.

Agree, but the pitching quality is not the best. I voted for Horlen who has an excellent card. Looks to be 9m++ to me. I think most people will be disappoint in the Finley, Vaughn cards and a few others.

I think voters are looking for impact players. Except for Rivera, almost all of the likely impact cards appear to be hitters cards.

I voted for the 2005 Rivera because his only card in the present deck is 1996, before Mariano became the Yankee closer. Wetteland was the closer in '96. The greatest closer in history ought to have a card that represents his performance as a closer.

It looks to me like 12 or 13 player cards are more or less shoe-ins, but there should be a bit of a scramble for the final slots. It won't take a lot of votes to make #19. Horlen definitely has a chance.

I'd love to see that Olerud card make the cut. Finley would be a nice CF option in the 5-6 Mil range (I'm just guessing on salary)

I probably fit that. I looked first at all the pitcher offerings and was underwhelmed. I was looking for impact pitchers from cadillac seasons. Next looked at cards from the decade games for which I could look at what would potentially be their ATG card.

I did not vote for any of the turn of the century guys but I can see why one might. From WWI on the fascination with power makes most of the options power hitters which we have an abundance of. Plus I think the overall increase in HRs gets HRs by relatively modern cards to be shortchanged.

On this card in ATG Hughie will be a 1e40 in all likelihood (as someone has already pointed out).
