Should someone be banned from the boards?

I don't think I need to mention who. I'm sure there will be a looong rant copying and pasting posts from around the boards while he claims slander, etc.
There have been multiple discussion in leagues about this. Pretty much most people have found the boards not enjoyable at this point. We can either let the game finish dying off, or maybe bring back some enjoyment.

I don't see anyone post things that in my opinion warrants being banned from a board.

1. There is the mechanism of declaring someone a "foe" which is nearly the equivalent of "de-friending" them on Facebook, since you can still get private messages. Strat or its board provider might want to amend that, based on the LaTorre request.

2. I do not recall l.stether suggesting anything violent, profane, obscene, etc. Before someone thinks about responding and saying, "But he is ..... and none of us like when he does that," well....see #1 above. Tone of a post or seemingly needing to get the last word may be annoying to most, I just don't think they are grounds for a ban. Please do not attempt to seek out a quote where he was, I don't care. He is not consistently writing that way (see below).

3. And. pre-emptively, in case a response is "No one called for Geekor and others banned for (insert quote)" my feelings towards a poster is based on the overall body of their comments on a board. A single instance, or even a few, over several months or years of posts that are consistently non-offensive or helpful? Well, if it was my board, I would be sending either a warning or short-term ban (at least that is how TSN did), and re-instate them. If someone is consistently obscene, violent, profane, etc., then I would permanently ban them.

Have to agree with blue. Ban is too strong of an action. Personally, I've just decided to ignore the person and not get sucked in.

I vote ban. "Someone" is poisoning the 200x community. (He would want me to mention his name.) Here are my reasons:

1. Someone's form of abuse can actually be more insidious than more aggressive forms. (He's fond of pointing out worse behavior to justify his own.)
2. Bad behavior by others (particularly on the ATG forums that I quit visiting a long time ago because of such behavior) does not excuse bad behavior.
3. There is a pattern; his bad behavior is not isolated--quite the opposite.

A significant percentage of 200x posts center around this person. That is not conducive to a positive atmosphere. And looking the other way is not a solution when this person calls someone a name or implies they don't know what they're talking about or claiming "he's won" if you don't respond or claiming that someone has not addressed his arguments when in fact they had or claims he hasn't made any personal attacks when in fact he has over and over. Almost everything he says wouldn't be "that bad" if said in isolation. However, he does it over and over, post after post.

Do you consider blocking the individual as a "foe" as "looking the other way? Not arguing with your points above, and I know a "newbie" may not know a foe option is available. Just curious.

That's a fair question, and it's a complicated answer. If everyone did this, that would be a solution. However, every time someone is a victim of this behavior and simply walks away from the forums or SOM online altogether, we all lose. One person announced in a post he was giving up on the boards; how many more have simply done so without such a post? So, I have refused to turn a blind eye when someone is a victim of this behavior.

However, that being said, I might do exactly that (use foe option). While sometimes this person's posts have been laugh out loud funny (bashing someone because there are better 18th century poets than the one he quoted?!), other posts make me sick to my stomach when I see the stuff he's getting away with at another person's expense.

Well, THAT comment I have to agree. I have no flippin' idea what Burns was saying, so really, anyone who writes in English scores for me.

Suspension, instead of banned, would be the proper action at this time, just like what happened to a handful of guys a couple years back. I also agree with the coyote posts above.

The most telling aspect is that without mentioning a single name everyone who has read this thread no doubt thought of the same person. The first time I ever remember reading a post from this person was when he went back a year and pulled out a quote from a long forgotten thread and went on the attack. After attempting to remember what the original discussion was about and explain what I meant I was repeatedly called a liar. I gave him 2 warnings I did not wish to engage in such silliness. After the third time I just listed him as a foe.

Now the only time I am aware of him is when I see posts by others he has chosen to attack and pick fights with trying to defend themselves and reason with him.
