I think Smoltz surpasses Hershiser as RHSP. 2.55 ERA in 27 starts, a whopping 13-4 record. And though it didn't work out for him, turned in a phenomenal performance in the biggest game of his career, game 7 in 1991.

Maybe Andy could update the list as we go along--perhaps putting rival candidates side by side when there is some doubt.

Personally, I'm persuaded by the cases made for Panda. But we're only counting WS record, and in the WS Smoltz was 2-2 in 8 games. Hershiser was 3-3, so he may have competitors at RHP. For example, Catfish Hunter was 5-3 in 12 games (9 starts) with a 3.29 ERA. Nobody in SOM's Expansion Era (1969 forward) has more wins.

If we go back to the true beginning of the expansion era however (1961 AL; 1962 NL), then I think Gibson gets the prize among righties, with a 7-2 record and 1.89 ERA.

Yes Smoltz was a big-game pitcher. Definitely strong when considered in totality. Don't think anyone was brighter than Hershiser in '88 though.

Oops...I see now the thread is titled "All-Postseason Team." Not sure why I thought it was the World Series. In that case, Smoltz definitely rates.

Pablo has been pretty amazing over the 2 WS he actually played in. As weird as this sounds Troy Glaus seems to deserve consideration at 3B as well. Also I haven't seen Manny's name mentioned yet unless I missed it, 29 HR's is hard to ignore.

How about Kirk Gibson? OK, it's only for two swings of the bat. But what swings! He hit the 8th inning deal sealer for the Tigers in Game 5 off of the Goose in '84 and then the "I don't believe what I just saw" walk off against Eck in Game 1 in '88. If I can't have Gibby in the starting line up, I surely want him as a pinch hitter.

I wouldn't mind having Rickey Henderson somewhere out there. His numbers may not be overwhelming, but they are pretty good Rickey numbers. And throw in Roberto Alomar who may have had some bad series, but he had some awfully good ones too.
