Single Team Theme 4 Decades - 90s draft

PostSat Nov 08, 2014 5:20 pm

The idea of this theme league is to select just one team to play in all 4 decades.

Here are the rules: 12 team league, 80 mil cap, 4 season commitment (1 team in each of the 60s, 70s. 80s, and 90s); 20% waiver penalty from Game 1. You pick a single franchise for all 4 decades and select the corresponding home stadium. Your opening day roster can only contain players that have at least one carded year for your franchise in that decade (for example, A-Rod can only start the season for Seattle because his carded 2001 season for TX falls outside the 90s); except each team may have up to 3 free agents on their roster.

Here are more details: The season will start with a 3 round draft on the message board to sort out the most desirable players that are eligible for 2 or more teams. Draft order will be the reverse of wins in that decade. The wins for each team by decade can be found here: http://mcubed.net/mlb/atl/dec.shtml .
Rule clarification - during the 3 round draft, each team is allowed to draft one free agent that is not carded to any of the 12 teams in our league. And you can start the season with that one free agent. For example, no one picked the Twins, so you can spend one of your draft picks on Harmon Killebrew and he can be on your opening day roster. But the only teams that can draft Frank Robinson are the Reds or the Orioles.

After the 3 round draft, we'll have the autodraft. In the autodraft you must select only players that have at least one carded year for your franchise in that decade (except for one free agent drafted during the 3 round draft). During waivers and the preseason, you can add free agents that are not carded to any of the 12 teams in our league provided that your roster never contain more than 3 free agents.

After opening day, you may have up to 3 free agents on your roster. You can replace a free agent any time after opening day, but you can't trade one. Also, after opening day, there is no such thing as an exclusive rights player - if the Giants decide to leave Willie Mays off their roster, after opening day, any team can pick him up. Before opening day, only the Giants can have Mays on their roster.

If you pick the Senators they become the Rangers. If you take the Pilots, Padres, Expos, Royals, Mariners, or Blue Jays, then, after everyone else has selected a franchise, you pick one additional franchise for the 60s (Pilots, Expos, Padres, Royals) or for both the 60s and 70s (Mariners and Blue Jays) during the 60s or 60s and 70s you only have rights to the additional franchise and not the Expos, etc. Rosters will be checked in the preseason and managers must make the appropriate moves to get their team in compliance with the rules. To the extent possible, divisions will be based on historical accuracy. Trades are allowed except that you cannot ever have more than 3 free agents on your roster at any one time.

Nice work on all of this, Franky. Always a pleasure to be in a league with you.

So, I did the research on my available players. My goal is not to break the 1962 NY Mets record in futility. I have 23 pitchers to choose from. 16 are priced at $750,000. 20 are below $1.9m. 22 are below $3.18m. Therefore, with the first overall pick in the free agent draft, I'm forced to take the only $4m or above pitcher I have carded.

1) Detroit - Jack Morris
2) Minnesota -
3) LA Angels - Mo Vaughn
4) Seattle -
5) Pittsburgh - Barry Bonds
6) SF Giants -
7) Baltimore -
8) LA Dodgers -
9) Texas -
10) Cincinnati -
11) Boston -
12) NY Yankees -
