Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom won the
AL Rookie of the Year award, receiving 26 of the 30 first-place votes from the Baseball Writers Association of America. DeGrom, 26, posted a 9-6 record, 2.63 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 9.2 strikeouts per nine innings. Over his final 15 starts, he went 9-2 with a 1.90 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 10.0 strikeouts per nine innings.
DeGrom is the first Mets player to win the award since pitcher Dwight Gooden in 1984. (emphasis added)
