So from what I have read here but mostly what I have read other sources Hanley is going to be a defensive liability wherever he plays, SS, 3B, or LF. But he will if healthy provide enough offense to compensate for the runs he gives up. Both he and Panda have been injury prone over the years so you cannot count on them both to be healthy. So perhaps there is room for Bogarts to stay around as insurance. Bogarts could get extra playing time by shifting Hanley to LF on occassion.

Maybe Boston really does have a plan here.

So, a period "entertains" you, Turtle? Why am I not surprised. However, Lakeviewdave erased four of his posts I'd debunked, leaving three of them with only periods. So, you clearly find bare period responses, themselves, entertaining, regardless of context. Again, I'm not surprised.

As to wordiness and impoliteness. If you found any of my posts wordy or unjustifiably impolite, please show me where. We both know you can't. And you can't "armchair quarterback" in a discussion about current transactions. So, that term is irrelevant. Finally, this was Lakeviewdave's actual response to my post; he didn't start with just a period:

Your bringing up Ferguson is not appropriate at all given the sensitivity of the current situation, no place for it here, terrible comparison, take it in public and see the response you get.

Those are pretty good predictions. I'm going to go with:

Scherzer: 7/175 with the Washington Nationals

Lester: 6/135 (as well) with the San Francisco Giants

Tomas: 6/95 with the San Diego Padres.

As to the Hamels trade, Philadelphia asked for both Swihart and Betts and were understandably turned down. I do, however, think Boston will have to trade one of those two if they actually want Hamels. Philly then would probably ask for one or two out of Anthony Ranaudo, Henry Owens, Eduardo Rodriguez and Matt Barnes; with Boston being only willing to give up one.

DBacks landed Yasiel Tomas. I read somewhere that Puig drew more walks than him. Don't know anything else about him, though.

Tomas signed for a lot less than I figured, although in a way it's to his advantage if he plays well due to the opt-out after his fourth year. I think the DBacks are the right type of team to get him too since he's high/risk high reward. The Giants need more of a sure thing.

Tomas' numbers don't compare well to Abreu or Puig's in Cuba. The best comparison I have heard is a downside of a poor man's Cespedes; power without the decent corner defense, along with the same plate discipline issues. But he's coming over at a younger age than those 3 players, so his upside should be considered higher than Cespedes'. A lot we don't know, a big error bar with predicting his career. But he doesn't appear to be the caliber of hitter that Abreu or Puig are based on a numbers comparison.

Wow at tonight's A's-Jays trade. Hard not to like the Jays end but it also has evil genius Beane potential to it. Headley to Oak as FA, Lawrie to 2b, farm system bolstered with Jays' prospects?

Wow is right. It's definitely a nice trade for the Jays off the bat. And after last year's late-season offensive collapse, I thought Oakland would bolster their offense, not sap it. Lawrie still hasn't built on his 2011 season--I do miss that card--and can't be expected to replace Donaldson's production.

I have to think the key to the trade for Oakland, and possible proof of Beane's "evil genius" element, is the young shortstop, Franklin Barreto. Toronto's #5 prospect, he's a solid hitting prospect (.311/.384/.481 at SS Vancouver) with gap power, speed, and nice range and arm. After handing Russell over to the Cubs, he joins Daniel Robertson as their middle infielders of the future. Nolin is left-handed, and Gravesman had a great year in the minors, but neither of them are significant prospects.

Headley would be a nice fit for Oakland; however, I'm still hoping he goes to the Giants.
