I've enjoyed the lists. I like how baseball is combined with music, tv shows, and movies. It's all very entertaining to me.

Wavy, what are you interested in?

I like the songs listed but don't quite understand the connection with Strat-o-matic 20xx. And, I'm sort of confused because the song lists don't really coincide with the player lists in any way that I can tell..

There is no direct connection and none was sought. The 20xx forum allows both MLB and SOM subjects, so the MLB/Arts lists well belong on that forum. The Arts lists--including the music ones--are like the "bonus" lists to the more "appropriate" MLB players lists. One may address both lists, just address the MLB lists, or may--as many have--just address the Arts/music lists. No matter what, the existence of the Arts halves certainly shouldn't bother anybody, and they shouldn't keep a pure MLB fan from enjoying and/or participating in the MLB halves of the threads.

So, again, I extend my invitation to you to participate on the Greatest Players halves of the threads. I assume you are a MLB fan and would have much to add to the discourses. You also now seem to appreciate music--and perhaps Film and TV--so you are more than welcome to participate in the Arts halves of the threads as well.

So, we've gone from crying about the forum being "dead" to actually complaining about the threads made, the threads others enjoy? That is both stupefying and sad...and a tad funny.

First of all, the Greatest Players threads are not "Off topic" threads. They are MLB threads that also encourage discussion of the Arts. I started them because the forum was dry, and I knew people enjoyed discussing/debating both MLB and the Arts...and I was right. Many of us have participated in these lists and have enjoyed comparing Drysdale and Niekro on the same thread as they discussed different Beatles songs, among other things.

Apparently you have no interest in music or in discussing it. That's fine. You are more than welcome to only address the MLB halves of the list. If not, I sincerely suggest you start your own thread that meets your particular standards. If this Forum is to grow and become more active, we need more people creating 20xx threads and less people complaining about the ones created.

I look forward to the baseball-only list you produce for us; I'm sure it will be firmly on-topic... ;)

There are lots of whiners on this board. How do you spot a whiner? Well, when what they complain about doesn't represent the facts. I'm hoping that those folks will some day look in the mirror for their true reason for upset.

I do not bother much with the artsy side of the posts. But see no harm in combining those with questions about best third baseman or whatever. Does no harm and if it helps keep the baseball discussion going then it is a definite positive.

So I say whatever it takes to keep people talking even if only part of it is baseball/strat then keep it up.

It's probably unfair to compare the rules of these boards with other boards but some things I've read on here likely would not be tolerated on some other forums I've visited.

Just a reminder - if you wouldn't like it said about you, don't say it about others.

I completely agree, and maybe we need clearer and tighter rules specifying what exactly we can or can't say. I've seen clearly abusive posts go un-removed and even un-addressed by our moderator. Here's a perfect example. This poster addressed this abusive post to a newbie, and he even references his genitals. Not surprisingly, that newbie is no longer with us:
geekor wrote:who asked your opinion, and I can voice my opinion? Are you 12 or retarded? WE can ALL voice our opinions, Jerlins included. Some serious tough talk for someone who was never part of the community as a whole and his first post. I'm sure your e-penis is huge, you don't have to act so big. If only strat fixed their shit and had the manger ratings then we could see how terrible you really are.

And what Jerlins said was correct, which is why Strat re-ran the game right away. No ones lineups were set correctly, winning when everything was messed up and losing when they are fixed just shows.... you should fix your lineups to begin with.

Here's another abusive post where the same poster actually threatens a newbie. He never returned either.
geekor wrote:Apple you pay for 80% name brand, 20% usability.

I can do anything you can do on an iphone, cheaper and better, with extra features Apple won't allow on my Android. Have fun with your squares and that's it. I can have my lock screen, and multiple desktops be more than squares, giving me ral time info, usability and functionality.

Fanboys should stop with the pissing contest before you get slaughtered.

We really do need clearer rules to prevent abusive posts like the ones from this poster above.

I've been playing this online game since it started around 2002. Over the past decade plus, I've seen and heard everything. Back on the TSN site when this online game was at its height of popularity, there was a ton of chatter going on and the boards were monitored more closely. It didn't take much for guys to get warning shots by the monitors.
As someone mentioned, the community is much smaller these days, but also much less monitored. It's up to us to keep it monitored. We also need to make the community bigger. One way is to not scare away newbies with contentious posts.

This is baseball and a game. Lets keep it enjoyable and lighthearted. Baseball is all about a lazy, sunny afternoon at the ballpark. Life is crazy. Lets keep our boards sheltered from reality.
