Nominate wisely!

PostThu Dec 04, 2014 2:35 pm

Since we get to nominate all 40 of the players and half of them will actually be added I would suggest everyone really think about who they nominate.

I agree - and with that being said, try to nominate players that are not currently in our ATG set. We don't really need any more Ruth's, Dimaggio's or Mays do we?

I had to nominate Babe Ruth 1923 --rated as the highest single-season WAR ever for a position player. If I hadn't nominated him, it would have been somebody else.

Maybe we really need a SIXTH card for Bill Terry!

Based of what Garcia says looks like dupicate players with different season will be EXCLUDED!!!

RULES

Only one nomination per user, please specify player and season

The first 40 unique players will be added to the poll next week

Any players listed after the first 40 (or duplicate players with different seasons) will not be used in the poll

Remember only the top 20 of the 40 nominations used will be added to ATG 8

So to me these player choices will be EXCLUDED as they already have cards in ATG.
Earl Averill
Tommy Davis
Cy Seymour
Babe Ruth
Ken Caminiti
Fred Lynn
Cy Williams
Cecil Fielder
Roy Campanella
Mickey Vernon

As I understand it, this "unique player" rule is meant to exclude nominating 2 different seasons by the same player during this nomination round. The player might already have a card or cards in the existing set. I get that from this comment by Garcia:
This means that if two people select one player but different seasons, only the first season will be the one that is on the poll.

In other words, let's say somebody else nominates Rocky Colavito 1959. That rules me out from nominating Colavito 1960. But it's not a problem that there are other Colavito cards already in the set. So far, Garcia has raised no objections to our nominations. You can send a query to <onlinegamesupport@strat-o-matic.com> if you have doubts, though.

What you say makes sense. But I would prefer ALL 20 Adds be cards of players NOT already in the set. I am not for a 3rd, 4th or even 5th card of a player already with a card.

Personally I think the best season should be available for all hall of famers. That is why I nominated Averill. There are several others that need to have the same thing done. I also like seeing MVP seasons of guys added that we don't have a good season of.

How about a Jim Edmonds card worthy of drafting - 2000 Jim Edmonds is my nomination.

Not to hijack the thread, but Edmonds best offensive season was 2004, the one we already have. 2000 Edmonds would not be a 15-game risk, but other than that, 2004 was best offensive year.
The specific skill set of Edmonds and Cesar Cedeno (defense, power, OBP from walks and not BA), just doesn't seem to transfer to ATG as well as it should.
