Apparently Friedman doesn't share your odd enthusiasm for Alex Guerrero. I think it's a bad trade. However, considering Heaney hasn't "handled the bigs," you've already indirectly defended it.

As to McCarthy, it is a bit risky. However, he's a solid GB-pitcher who was excellent for NY last year. If LA's doctors have correctly confirmed he's healthy, he could be a #3 starter in the #4 slot for them.

Wow, and Friedman continues the moves this morning. Unloaded Kemp's bloated contract on the Padres, lol! Welcome to the bigs Joc Pederson. The Giants are facing a brilliant GM with a lotta dough at his disposal.

Cespedes moved for Porcello. A solid get for the Sox given their needs and OF surplus.

The "brilliant" GM whom you said made an "indefensible" trade? That's a strange dichotomy.

I do agree with the brilliant part, and I think getting Grandal, Wieland, and Eflin is a good return for Kemp, even if they still have to help SD pay his contract.

As to the Cespedes trade, I like it for both teams. Porcello obviously arrived last year and is still only 26. Cespedes gives the Tigers a needed athletic presence and a RH power hitter in the middle of the order to replace Hunter.

After finally seeing Porcello "arrive" as a solid SP, hate to see him go for Cespedes. Maybe the minor leaguers will be interesting.

Detroit gave away its best pitching prospect, Jake Thompson, in the Soria trade last year. They are very low on pitching (or any) prospects, and their closest to ready, Buck Farmer, isn't ready. With their front four of Price-Sanchez-Verlander-Greene set, they should do fine by signing a lower level free agent like Masterson.

This is certainly the beginning of a new era in LA. No more of these "safe" "defensible" moves ala Colletti. I for one and happy to see Kemp go, even though he did rake in the 2nd half. His prima donna hollywood star strut had become a bit too much for me.

Dodgers still pretty obviously need at least one more starting pitcher. Who will it be? they made a huge offer to Lester so why not Scherzer or Shields? :D

Kemp was a prima donna Strat player on our forum? I knew a few guys seemed familiarly cocky... ;)

As to Friedman's moves. They're both brilliant and defensible. He dumped Haren's salary, ended up with a better offensive second baseman, and got a decent offensive catching prospect (which they needed). That's pretty defensible.

Already this lineup will catch the ball much more often, with Puig better in RF and Joc a defensive upgrade in CF. The DP combo is much better than the duo they replaced with the leather

Friedman did not dump Haren's salary he sent $10M to Miami in the deal. And reportedly he's sending more cash over to cover all of Dee Gordon's salary too.
