The best deal the Mets probably made were the ones they didn't make. In Syndergaard, Nimmo, Conforto, Montero, and Herrera, they have a nice little cache of young players, and other teams could have wanted them for too little. I know Alderson hasn't earned much faith from Mets fans, but as an A's fan (2nd favorite), I still believe he can help them improve.
He's certainly restocked the farm, and whittled down the bad contracts, and I'm certainly not an advocate of spending money just to spend money, but they spend like they are the A's or the Pirates. They are sitting in the largest market in the country with their own TV network and a relatively new stadium so I'd like to think that now they can start increasing the payroll a bit and start using some of that rebuilt farm system (which IMHO, is decidedly slanted towards pitchers and not nearly enough towards position players) to start improving the big league club. I simply can't take another 70-80 win season, and right now I think their big league roster is looking like just that type of team.
You'll forgive me if I don't feel sorry for your Giants given their success in the past few seasons.
