Event 5 rule question

PostMon Oct 06, 2014 3:16 pm

Am I correct that in the 2-round pre-draft managers must draft a unique ballpark and one ballplayer, but can use either round to do so? Example round 1 I draft Progressive, round 2 Cabrera

Thanks for this. I'm set; won't be going any higher. My fifth team is my worst, and will be the first to not even reach .500.

OK, this is odd -- who is "compac"? S/he literally just cutnpasted my response from another thread, and it's the first comment s/he's ever made. Weirds me out. Check out compac's comment and my comment here.

S/he has to be a cut-rate hacker, a nefarious A.I. (Skynet?) with an odd sense of humor, a confused new poster, or an old poster with a bad sense of humor.

S/he's probably one of the latter two. And if re-posting random posts of yours is the worst s/he does, I wouldn't be too concerned. After one or two more, though, I'd report him or her.

I'm not disagreeing with anything posted on this thread, but I'm not sure I would get too worried about it. I'll PM compac to ask, but sometimes players get different user names somehow, sometimes, on the strat system here. I've seen it happen before, but I can't give you an example right now.

It might also be that the player has more than one account at strat - which I'm not encouraging - but I've heard of that happening before, too.

I'll PM compac and report back if there is a simple explanation.

Thank you, Geoff. I remain mildly weirded out, but will hope this is just a confused new user of some sort. Does anyone know this player, compac ? Or played with him in a league?

So, I just Googled "compac" and the signature "adil" and found a number of forums where this person signed on and made one or two posts:

http://www.eccauk.org/forum/member.php? ... le&uid=299
http://www.finishingtalk.com/community/user6754.html
http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/memb ... all&page=1

There are many more than these. These were just the examples that popped up on top.

On this page, the post includes an advertisement:

http://www.teamflyingcircus.com/forum/s ... php?t=7668

You'll note the posts seem to be a couple of months later than the rest of the posts on the thread and it looks like it probably is pulling another message from the same discussion board.

My hunch is that somebody has created some sort of bot. I'm not sure what the purpose would be, unless it succeeds in posting advertisements and somebody actually is getting paid if people click on them. I suppose it could be that the people who invent these things don't need a material motive, they just want to invent a bot that works.

I hope we don't now have lots of these clogging up the SOM board.
