So, teamnasty makes a Macbeth reference; I'm impressed. I certainly wouldn't celebrate McGeehee's acquisition, but I wouldn't--depending on the cost--"slam my head on the desk" over it either. He does have legitimate right-handed gap power, which would play well in AT&T, and is better than the Giants' in-house options at 3b. Even if they get someone better, McGeehee would be a nice veteran bat off the bench.

Read an article in paper that Yankees are saying they plan on playing Arod at DH. That is an expensive DH.
Makes sense though. There is some chance as a DH he can stay healthy enough to play all year.

A-Rod is going to be an expensive anything, no matter where he plays...particularly if the Yanks release him and don't play him anywhere. With Headley entrenched at 3b, Dh is the only spot left for A-Rod. However, it is very likely that Garrett Jones could take away many of A-Rod's Dh at-bats against righties. So, there's a good chance A-Rod could end up being a very expensive platoon Dh.

The mighty sure can fall.

Now Preller is going after Chris Davis. Love it!

Preller clearly pitched a new vision of the Padres and Petco when he interviewed for the job. He's now going with high-HR/high K guys in Lf and Rf, and a Rf in CF. If he adds Davis, he clearly has sealed his vision on the actual team, if he hasn't already. Apparently he and his analysts have decided that a high-powered team can not only function in Petco, it can flourish.

Preller is a very smart guy--Summa Cum Laude from Cornell--who, like his friend Jon Daniels, prefers the anaylytic approach to putting together and running a team. I'm sure he and his team have analyzed most (if not all) of Kemp's, Upton's, and Davis' past HRs and decided enough would be HRs or doubles in Petco to make them productive. Even if they don't, he certainly has put together a more interesting and more exciting team than the Pads of recent years.

I can't wait to see how the Padres do against top left-handed pitchers. Looks like they'll eat them for lunch. But not so sure about their chances of success against righty pitchers. Would be nice to get Davis.

I think the A's made this kind of approach work...a pitcher's park and a heavy HR lineup.

Today's Smith for Maurer trade helps both teams considering their needs but I prefer the Padres' side of the deal on long term upside grounds
