I thought the rules were clear on the states. The 65 Mays would be eligible for CA and 56 Mays for NY. Whoever ranks him higher gets him and must use his proper state card. If NY gets him then they cant use his SF cards

At least that is what the rules say

"I don't care if Bonds is more money on SF, if the Pennsylvania owner ranks him over one of the California owners then he (or she) gets him"

Yes, but the rules also state that the drop-down menu rules. I think that in the case of the post-war Dodgers and Giants, this is a mistake. Koufax, Drysdale, and Mays are horses of a different color. Mays played about 750 games for the New York Giants and about 2000 for the San Francisco Giants. Koufax and Drysdale had no seasons whatsoever of consequence for the Brooklyn Dodgers, at least as far as this site goes. Juan Marichal is worse, he played NO games for the NYG but his two best cards are eligible, under the current rules, only for New York.

I think that, for the post-war Dodgers and Giants, the city / state on the card should rule rather than the city/state on the drop-down. Duke Snider and Jackie Robinson were Brooklyn Dodgers. Koufax and Drysdale were Los Angeles Dodgers. The fact that this site doesn't recognize it doesn't make it so.

Under the current division of players, California has exactly one SP over $9 million (There IS no CAL-post team listed in the drop-down, so presumably Dean Chance 1964 is not eligible). Although you can surely put together a competitive $120 million team without any SP over $9 million, it certainly seems that the rules revision I proposed above would make the CAL player pool more able to support 2 teams.

Or if pacoboy goes with DC-BAL, I can live without Willie, Sandy and Don.

One dumb newbie question. Won't the auto draft fill us with a few players that aren't eligible for our teams? Do we just drop them then, and is there a penalty for that?

Outta Leftfield wrote:This would mean, wouldn't it, that the players on the Dodger and Giant teams who moved to California in the late 1950s but who are under the BKN-post and NYG-post Drop Down lists would still be considered NY players. Is that correct?

If this is right, then it would mean that players like Mays 1962 and Koufax 1965 would be considered NY players.

I"m pretty sure that's what you mean, but these are important players and so I think it's good that we're 100% clear on this before we draft.

Thanks, OL

I read the rules carefully several times before taking New York. For what it's worth, I agree with OL's interpretation. Neither Mays, Drysdale or Koufax are on the California team's drop down lists, which control.

The Bonds example does not address the issue, as he is on drop down lists for both SF and Pittsburgh, while Mays, Drysdale and Koufax are only on the NY drop down lists.

Willie McCovey and Juan Marichal are a different story, as they appear on BOTH the New York and California drop down lists, making them eligible to play for whichever team grabs them first. However, based on the commish's prior comments, it seems that whichever team gets those players appearing on both franchise lists would be limited to the player's card(s) as they appear on the team's franchise list.

In saying "It goes by the DROP DOWN LIST"", the commish set an easy rule to follow. A player is either on the list or he isn't. A team can't claim a player who's not on that team's drop down list. Pretty simple. - Bernie

Sorry, took advantage of this nice NY weather and played golf.

On iPhone so I'll be brief.

1 I'll take WASHINGTON
2 I noticed this last nite and was hoping I'd be given the choice to leave CA to 1 owner, so that's what I'll do
3 rules stand as is, wtdawg gets all CA ( except 3 RP's from Negro team) but only from the 5 drop downs listed by TSN.

Next time I'll rethink it

Don't like changing rules mid stream.

Cool? Early owners may have taken CA .

NEL is ready to load.

As far as the "drop down lists". I assumed he was speaking of the players. So if Marichal is a NYG post his "drop down list of cards" are all SF so he would be a CA player in my interpretation.

Thi why anted no part of a NY r CA team. But I have chosen 3 ca players that are all $1.30 or lower and wi be inconsequentil in JOSH AND Satchl's drive to the championship.

P.S:---OHIO keep your hands off paige!!
