Eddie Yost

PostFri Jan 02, 2015 1:44 pm

I'm in a theme league and I'm using him @ 3B.

On his 1956 card, he's W power both ways, yet on his card vs. LH's on 3/10 he's got a straight HOMERUN and on 1/4 he's got a split HR of 1-13.

Is this possible or an error?

Possibly correct. I suppose it could be argued that the algorithm used calculated he should be thus based on ballpark he played in or something. But if I had to bet the dinner check I would bet it is an error.

According to baseball reference he hit 4 HRs in 137 ABs verses LH pitching and 7 in 378 vs RH pitching.
That is 1 every 34 ABs against lefties and 1 every 54 against righties. So there is a basis for more power on the card against lefties. But .....

Absolutely no way he ever hits 7 HRs in 378 ABs with that card. Anyone want to pull out the old "the cards are designed to reproduce stats if replayed against the same opponents as real life arguument here"?

With power W no HRs off the pitcher card and only 1 every 2,160 rolls off the hitter card.

My first thought is this card is from a chevy edition with the usual statistical shortcomings. But even that would not explain such an inaccurate card.

On a non-advanced set of the '56 card Yost has:

a W on Left and Right side

left side

4 is a HR23DO
11 HR
12 HR

Right Side

12 HR2DO

The thought just occurred to me. Is it possible this Yost card came from Fantasim? Those were never accurate and actually many were inaccurate to introduce more variability and unpredictability for the fantasy slant it had. Some, 4 in particular, were so far off they drew the ire of the community and ongoing complaints until they were replaced. I am betting there were many others less obvious that could have slid under the radar.

I thought about that...

But compared to the other 4, Eddie had no business even having a Fantasim card!

True, but fantasim had enough cards to form complete leagues. I was thinking there were a dozen or two added to ATG over the years.
