$125 mil DH post/exp franchise league - FILLED, THANKS

PostFri Jan 09, 2015 8:42 am

NEW CARDS! NEW CARDS! THE NEW CARDS WILL BE USED IN THIS LEAGUE.

$125 mil cap, DH, ATG8 Post WWII set, including expansion players, Franchise league. Frenzy. Pick a stadium used by your team in the post WWII or expansion set.

Player eligibility: Use the post WWII and expansion drop down lists to determine who is eligible to play for your franchise or use anyone carded to your franchise in the event a player is not on the drop down list or is on the wrong list. Can only use players carded to your franchise. For example, Barry Bonds SF card cannot be used by the Pirates and none of his Pittsburgh cards can be used by the Giants. Players with multiple franchises get assigned to teams in the autodraft. Foe example, if the Cubs draft Maddux ahead of the Braves, he belongs to the Cubs, but the Cubs can only use his Cubs' card. If a multi-franchise player is dropped or goes undrafted, he can be claimed by any team for which he has a card, but the team who claims him can only use cards he has from that team. Note that unlike some other franchise leagues, the highest priced card does not determine a player's franchise.

Sign up list is below. If you want to join the league, cut and paste the sign up list with your team name and your name added and post it in this thread. Once we get 12 managers, I'll create a private league and give the password.

Questions? Ask now, BEFORE the league starts. With just 4 spots left and use of the new cards, this one should fill fast, so don't delay. Good luck. - Bernie

Yeah, and when you let managers choose their franchise at caps this high, the leagues never fill. You've gotta use a randomizer to give everyone a shot at the Yankees, Cardinals, etc.

rburgh: You have a point worthy of consideration, but if you knew the background behind this post (too long to go into here and irrelevant in the search for managers), you would not be so quick to criticize.

The league filled previously with no franchise randomizer with the exact same franchises and managers on the list and I expect that it will fill again. The league needs new managers because of a spat over player eligibility, not because the other managers were concerned about uneven competition.

I was recently in a franchise league with a cap of $140 mil that also had first come first serve for team selection, except that the manager could only choose a team from one of the four Strato eras, i.e. deadball, pre WWII, post WWII or expansion, for example, the deadball Giants or the expansion Cardinals. I agree that in that situation the cap was too high and the talent was a little thin. About half of our 12 team league was very competitive, but that's not really much different from the usual autodraft non-franchise ATG8 league.

In the league here, two eras are combined, post WWII and expansion, and the cap is lower, so nearly all MLB franchises, except the most recent ones with limited player pools, will be able to field very competitive teams. There are at least 20 of the 30 MLB franchises that, with the right roster moves, can compete for a playoff spot. The key is finding good managers who are up to the challenge instead of those who merely criticize the format of a league they have no intention of joining anyway.

There are a number of good teams left. Give it a shot. You could be pleasantly surprised.

Check out the new players, meet the challenge and come join us, and have some fun. You'll be glad that you did. - Bernie

A sentimental choice. I'd rather see this at 100M or lower, though.

Can't believe nobody has jumped on the Reds. They seem like the perfect team for this format. Also, how about that new Cecil Fielder card? Shades of McGwire, Bagwell, Juan Gonzalez and Matt Williams all rolled into one against lefties. He's the perfect platoon partner for Norm Cash. Hey, the Tigers are still left, too. I've seen them win a recent franchise league, but at a lower cap.

Choose wisely and good luck!. - Bernie

Dilgreene: DUH, the idea was to convince someone new to take the Reds. It might be a little harder sell to get someone to take the Senators/Twins that you dropped!

Honestiago welcome aboard. I hear you about the Pirates. I wish the powers that be at SOM would give us the 1977 Rennie Stennett, who hit .336 and was a 1 fielder, but broke his leg late in the season. He was never the same after that. Stennett would greatly help the Pirates in franchise leagues. Still, lots of talent on the Pirates, but you'd think that they'd have more, having gotten rings in 1960, 1971, 1979 and being a playoff contender in the early '90s when they had Bonds, Bonilla, Van Slyke & Drabek, et al.
