The way I believe the rule is written all Dave has to do is trade the 3rd round pick he has from Turtle (currently the 10th pick he has to make) and his 6th round FA pick to edub to get his 10th round pick back then technically he only has to drop 10 players.
or just trade the 6th round pick to edub and get his 10th back and drop 11 players.
8) You cannot trade draft choices that you do not own. This means that if you trade a 9th round draft pick, you must release as many players as necessary to insure that you will have a 9th round pick. For example, you have a 40-man roster, and you have acquired extra 2nd, 3rd and 6th round draft picks during the year. You have also traded away a 7th and 9th round draft picks. This means you must release at least 12 players prior to the draft to ensure that you will have a 9th round pick. If you plan to continue drafting beyond Round 9, you will have to release an additional player for each subsequent round.
You cannot drop more than 15 players.
as the rule is written he just has to ensure he has a 10th round pick (and has to be able to use it). It's the loop hole.
Otherwise Dave has to drop 17 players (
the rule states he cannot drop more than 15), he only has 11 picks. The draft is only 15 rounds long therefore even if Dave drafts in rounds 11-15 he is still one player short and has to have a supplemental pick to get his roster to 40. This is why it punishes guys who trade for picks.
