if you trade a 9th round draft pick, you must release as many players as necessary to insure that you will have a 9th round pick. If the pick was traded as stated I no longer own a 9th Rd selection...I traded it so...
For example, you have a 40-man roster, and you have acquired extra 2nd, 3rd and 6th round draft picks during the year. You have also traded away a 7th and 9th round draft picks. This means you must release at least 12 players prior to the draft to ensure that you will have a 9th round pick. ...if I've acquired 3 and traded away 2, then I would think if I wanted to utilize all 11 "net" draft picks, then I'd need to drop 11 players to get to 29. If I chose to only drop to 30 players prior to the draft, then I wouldn't be able to use (nor trade) my 10th Round FA pick
If you plan to continue drafting beyond Round 9, you will have to release an additional player for each subsequent round. You cannot drop more than 15 players. See above as this makes no sense to me since I dropped to the required 30 prior to the draft
As it stands now, I currently own 12 FA picks through 10 rounds and I plan to drop the required 12 (at least) to allow me to utilize the picks. If I drop to 25 prior to the FA draft then I assume I'd be completed in Round 13. (Assuming of course I don't trade any picks prior to the FA draft drop deadline)
Thanks for any clarification...
