1864 Base Ball

PostSat Jan 17, 2015 12:24 pm

I am about to leave to go tryout for a team in the "Tennessee Vintage Base Ball League". There are approximately 30 spots available for 2 teams and I am gonna see if they want a 59 year "old codger" playing on one of them. They play using 1864 rules (mostly with some concessions), no gloves, single piece leather ball stitched in a cross, one bounce outs, no stealing, no sliding, no overrunning 1st among other early rules. Check out the league @http://tennesseevintagebaseball.com/, and wish me luck and no serious injuries.

Better hurry up and join the team. In 1864, you might be drafted in the war.

At 59, you won't have to worry about over running any base... :D ;)

Not the oldest guy there and I will be playing for one of the Chattanooga teams (there are 2). We will be playing an 11 game season + tournament @ plantations and other historical locations throughout Tennessee. The tryout was @ the 6th cavalry museum grounds in Ft. Oglethorpe , Ga. It is done just like civil war battle recreations, period clothing, look and lingo; Well struck sir, stir those stumps, a truly ginger play sir, leg it, huzzah! This is gonna be so much fun! It combines 2 of my favorite things, the civil war period and baseball, can hardly wait for the season to begin.

Just got an e-mail from league, they are appointing captains for the 2 Chattanooga teams and distributing equipment. Rosters, uniforms and practices will follow. I'm supposed to be on the "Mountain City" team, but they reserve the right to move players before rosters are permanently set to create a good age mix (read not too many old farts on one team). Can't wait!
