2013 All < $2.0 mil team

PostSun Feb 01, 2015 2:35 pm

As the current season comes to a close, by personal favorites for value players. Each of these guys have been a starter on one or more of my teams and all as valuable backups / utility players.

C - Nieves, 1.4 - 4th among all catchers in hits, not a horrible defensive player and only a 2 inj rating. Honorable mention, Rivera as a backup, good defensively and not a total liability at the plate.

1b - Baker, 1.76 - Obviously a platoon guy but creams lefties

2b - Altuve, .98 - Lots of hits, a stealer. Yes a 3 middle IF but only e10. Honorable mention, Lemahieu

SS - Albar, 1.88 - good stick among SS's, 2 fielder. Honorable mention, Alcides Escobar

3b - Herrera, 1.63 - Toughest position to pick, no "great" choices IMO but Herrera is my pick

LF - Suzuki, 1.05 - Good vs LH's decent vs RH, good defensively, A stealing, 1 injury

CF - Revere, 1.03 - Lots of hits, 2 CF, A stealing however 4 inj and +3 arm makes him a backup , PH, PR

RF - Gose, 1.7 - Lots of hits, with power up the alleys, 2 fielder, e17 a liability

DH - Shuck, 1.02 - with tons of Honorable mentions: Boesch, Scutaro, Norris, etc.

Good ones listed above. I've used Baker and Suzuki a few times myself. So, I'll add some of my own. I don't usually start <2m position players, so most of my picks are my favorite platoon guys.

C-Sanchez, .94 If Norris is gone, Sanchez is an excellent platoon partner for McCann or Saltalamacchia. He's also cheaper than Norris and a better backup against the righties.

1b-Freiman, .79 On my Progressive teams, Freiman was a perfect substitute for Ortiz when teams threw lefty starters against me in their parks.

2b-Lucas, .1.33 Another excellent platoon player against lefties who can also slot in at 3b, Lf, and 1b.

SS-Hechevarria, A perfect cheap, defensive ace on a team otherwise loaded with hitters and/or a solid backup/defensive replacement for those taking the Hanley risk.

3b-Plouffe, 1.64 Another excellent platoon player for my Progressive teams with his high OBP and low dependence on BP hrs. He also plays 1b.

Lf-Derosa, 1.03 Solid, cheap platoon player. He's a little rough on D, but he has pop and can also fill in at 3b.

Cf-Danks, 1.42 With speed, power, and D, he's a perfect backup/defensive replacement/pinch runner for Harper in CF

Rf-Ross, 1.81 A powerful near-beast against lefties who plays a solid Lf and Rf and backs up against righties well.

I'll add my picks and try not to duplicate the good picks above too much.

C Mesoroco $1.38 3 def and is solid against lefties

1B Overbay $1.33 Great 2 Defense (good late innings replacement) and seems to always be a good RBI guy

2B Brian Roberts $ 1.20 Yes, a 3 def but low errors, always a good clutch hitter.Switch hitter that even hits righties

3B Mike Aviles $ 1.92 Agree, not much here, but good 2 speed, 3 def, 1 injury, does hit a little (Profar can fill here)

SS J. Profar $ 1.31 Not as high as Aybar on my list but low money- 2 Def. and hits for some power and avg.

RF Cody Ross $1.81 Agree with above, all reasons, but Baker can go here as a 4 def. hitter against lefties

CF Logan Schafer $0.70 for ONLY $.70....2 def. Bal 2Right- Great Speed, Overachiever as a hitter at times-

LF Ichiro Suzuki $1.07 Great 2,-3 arm defender anywhere (late innings)- good B Lefty hitter

DH Adam Dunn$1.49 The Big Donk 34 HR, 86 RBI in only 525 AB and 1 injury rating- low avg but good clutch

* Honorable mention- Sean Rodriguez- good 2 def almost anywhere, high OBP. Love the hitting of Boesch as well. C- Kurt Suzuki def. and somewhat of an overachiever as a hitter.

BTW- In the future perhaps- Thread for an above $ 2 mil. Underachievers, Biggest Disappoinments Thread lol
