NLD 38 - Opening Day Season

Just an eyeball assessment - NLD 38 will be:

5%/10%/20% roster charge
No frenzy

I know this is an old posting but ... still worth reading again (Joe's site link is broken for the updated history)

• Big A got his first title in 23 seasons and four playoff appearances.
• Stoney has made the playoff 3 straight times. Tell me again why we worked to bring this guy back!
• Silver has the record with six straight and also has an 11 of 12 streak.
• AT is working on a 3 of 4 streak and JTJ on 3 of 5. Korky missed after making two straight.
• JTJ/WM are the “Cy Youngs” of the league leading in all-time wins and losses. They are sitting on EXACTLY 3000 wins.
• First time ever three teams finished with the best record.
• In fact, it’s only the second ever tie of any sort for best record. The other was NLD 21 in 2008.
• The top six finishers were the closest ever: 88-88-88-87-87-86 wins.
• Interestingly enough, the STD Deviation wasn’t the closest ever. That would be NLD 23 where the best record was 86 and no one finished with fewer than 72 wins. Four teams had 83 wins tied for the last playoff spot, and two tied for the second best record with 85.
• Only the sixth season where no one cracked 90 wins

I guess I need to post an NLD 37 update. Is that what you're getting at Semper?? Couldn't have ANYTHING to do with the fact that you won it??? Hmmmm???

Thirteen seasons of gut wrenching futility and with the majority of my time toiling in the East division with the top draft choice doesn't amount to too many accolades.

Sure Semper. Stick with that story.

As for the T-shirt, when I get mine, I'll send you yours. Howeer, I only have you down for 13 seasons.

That said, the current members with 14 or more seasons are:
JTJ - 37
AT - 29
Smoke - 25
Big A 24
Hawk 27
Stoney 20
Korkie/Corky 18

So, as impressive as 13 seasons is, more than half the league has more!

I would say you get the boomerang award however, this is your third stint. Zim has also had three stints. I think, however, he said he's not coming back for the Spring????

You do have the honor, however, of playing in the earliest NLD besides for me and Corky (both NLD 1) by playing in NLD 6.

Notes:

Semper wins 2nd in 3 NLDs after going 10 with only one playoff appearance. Guess he was due!
Stoney has finished with the best record three straight seasons and has made the playoff four straight. He's sad to see the 2013 set fade into history.
He's tied with jeep for second in % of best records with 20%. If he does it again, he would move past Silver
Stoney has moved into second in winning pct (by .0007), but like the only man ahead of him, he's had trouble winning in the playoffs. Silver won only 15% of the playoffs, Stoney is currently 1 for 10. That's some bad luck. He's probably due too.
Spider has reached the champs game in two of his three seasons but has not yet gotten over the hump.
It was the 11th victory for the second best record, tied with the best record for most.
The league was pretty tight with a 6.8 Std Deviation, under the average, but far from the lowest.
AT passed Silver for second place in total wins.
We had a pretty consistent group with 10 guys playing in all three leagues and JMP played in two.

Talking about NLD championship titles, Gbrookes needs one (1) more and then he ties for the NLD lead despite playing in less than 20% of the 37 NLD seasons. The leaders with four (4) wins each, AT and BigMahon, played in more than 67% of the leagues. Incredible!

Another prolific short-term owner, SandlotShrink, won two (2) titles in eleven seasons.

The more you play - the more you win as owners with 10+ NLD seasons under their belt (17 in totals) claiming 29 out of 37 NLD titles. Of course, three owners - JamesGang, Abner, and Keyzick - still looking for their first big win

Smokee can pass BigMahon and Jeep and take sole possession of 5th place on the all-time wins board. Smokee is also due for a title as well as Joe's team which hasn't rung the bell since NLD 22.

What I haven't analyzed is whether your draft spot greatly influences your chance to win a title. Considering Gbrookes and several others winning back to back titles - one could argue it doesn't matter too much.

Semp, some great observations. Thanks. Yeah, I've had a long dry spell after going back-to-back. Guess I used 15 seasons worth of luck in those two runs.

The workload at my job has greatly increased over the past six months and I overextended the number of teams I can realistically draft and follow.

I enjoyed my seasons in the league. You guys really know your stuff!

It would be a fun exercise to track the playoff teams by their draft position.

It would be a tell-tell if the top drafting teams found themselves in the playoff bonus rounds. It could give away to flopping in the second half ala Cleveland Cavs to grab the next LeBron James sweepstakes.
