That's a great script!

A few years back there was one of the board members here who loved writing greasemonkey scripts. He posted scripts for all kinds of customizations. I don't remember who it was though and doubt he is still around.

Key thing I think if you do not want to learn to write your own is make sure you trust the person you are getting the script from. Don't know if it is possible to slip sneaky code in to a greasemonkey script or not.

Might be referring to me cause I don't know who else have done these for SOM.

I also wrote a script for the foes list!

Are your scripts updated for the new site? I used them all the time back on sportingnews.

I have to say, the "good old days" weren't really better. I avoided the forums in my early SOM days. When I did finally join in, I was attacked by a veteran for a polite post. I'm not "faulting" Geekor here, but we are talking about the old days and I do have to give evidence. After I made a polite post on the autodraft, Geekor gave this ugly response (no asterisks in original):
short sighted people...can't see past the tip of your nose.
Where the f**k does anyone say they want to get all their picks? no one expects that. Don't break things off to a tangent that no one is even suggesting...
The guys who spend a lot want to keep their advantage in the game. Why change it to make is easier and more fair? Too many damn commuinists on these boards......

That post was hostile, contentious, and broke the forum rules of abuse. However, none of the Vets on that thread--including some on this one--said anything. Even worse, the moderator was also participating on that thread and said nothing. I've seen many other such posts in the "good old days" where veterans said nothing, so they weren't that pure. As to "fixing" today, I suggest someone, maybe a moderator, sets up a thread where we can decide what kind of rules of etiquette we want. Some questions we would have to answer are:

1. What exactly is a "pissing contest" and what differentiates it from normal disagreement?
2. Are we allowed to disagree, critique, criticize, and/ or even tell someone they're wrong?
3. Are sarcasm and humorous jabs allowed, or are they antagonistic and should be avoided?
4. Are expressions of anger allowed or are they just forms of antagonism?
5. What exactly is a "contentious" post and should contentious post be allowed?

Yes, and I still use that one!

I'm currently working on one that gives you info on the Sim Misc page by series. With the mystery games it's nice to know how the hitter/pitcher rolls played out per series.

Yes I've managed to update a couple scripts. The site that hosted all of the old ones is no longer available, unfortunately.

BTW, I agree with the OP. The main purpose of this message board should be to share knowledge and work together as a strat community - not to provoke others to cause arguments.

The forums would be a much more pleasant experience if everyone was allowed to have an opinion or be able to make a statement without a demand of itemized documentation of why they think what they think or being dismissed as being completely wrong or irrelevant. Also telling others that they can't read or comprehend what was previously written is very demeaning and doesn't encourage participation.

We all should be able to share knowledge and have an opinion in these forums. If others have a different opinion on a topic than you do then post your take on it but don't slam others for thinking something else. In most instances in baseball and in SOM there is no hard defined correct and incorrect answer so no one opinion is the final answer. Who was the best player Willie Mays or Hank Aaron? You could try and justify one over the other but there is no one correct answer. What team got the better end of a trade? You may have an educated opinion supported by very reasonable facts but that certainly doesn't mean that your opinion will turn out to be correct and any other opinion is necessarily wrong.

Wait for it....here comes the lecture arguing the value of the penny in today's economy and why anyone that would still acknowledge pennies is dramatically less intelligent than he is.

Robert's provocative and contentious troll post above is exactly the kind of post we can do without if we want a more courteous, polite Forum.

He once posted this on another thread:
ROBERTLATORRE wrote:The purpose of the SOM Online discussion board is to allow people to build a community around the game. It is a place to share information, ask questions, discuss strategy, participate in theme leagues, increase awareness of the game, and talk baseball.

Those are some pretty good ideas there. Too bad his troll post above completely goes against them and makes him quite the hypocrite.

I completely agree with this, which is why I posted Geekor's abusive "slamming" post to show how bad things used to be.
However, we really need discussion on what constitutes "slamming." Most see it as dismissing or attacking someone's opinion/argument in an abusive and/or denigrating manner. However, some also--I believe over-sensitively--see mere disagreement or criticism of one's argument as "slamming." So, we do need discussion on what "slamming" actually is.
Also telling others that they can't read or comprehend what was previously written is very demeaning and doesn't encourage participation.

Telling somebody they can't read or comprehend something without due provocation is rude. However, telling somebody who misrepresented what they wrote that they misread it is entirely appropriate and rational. If the person misreading did so politely and mistakenly, then one should definitely note the misreading politely. So, I'm with you there, too.

Geekor or Greasemonkey, can you PM me and instruct me how to make that happen. The FOE functionality doesn't work for me.

Not sure, I did it a while ago. I guess I could send you what I have, but then you have to add the user to Foes list first (which apparently you can't do).

I would search phpbb (the forums are built on this) block user script, or something like that to see of something different exists for you, since you can't add to foe.
