2) Freddie Freeman-1B (but only if receiving a power hitting 1B in return)
3) Xander Bogaerts-SS (looking for a high return on this legit power hitting IF prospect)

Salary Cap & Roster Size

Two things that should be discussed in the league before our 2015 regular season begins play.

Salary Cap:

Should we even care to have a salary cap now that STRAT offers a 'No Salary Cap' option to their online game play for leagues?? I only ask this because for the first time I can ever remember I ran into salary cap problems leading up towards the end of picking up players for the regular season. Apparently with an enormous amount of injuries & constantly resetting my starting pitching rotation based on park & opponent I ran into/discovered this problem. Now the roster size discussion below could make this a mute point.

Roster Size:

We ran into roster problems last year with injuries & with substitutions for those injuries being left on the roster after those player injuries were over. Hence a few times a series were being played with one or two extra players that should have been ineligible. I've looked at other online leagues & have found that some play the regular season with the max roster allowed by STRAT (28) while others play with one less then the maximum (27). If we were to increase roster size there would be a few obvious benefits.
1) obviously no problem with being over the 25 after injuries have concluded because we would be using a constant 27/28.
2) could have deeper bullpens allowing for drafting of lower inning relievers that wouldn't be crushed with limitations.
3) no one would run into the salary cap issues mentioned here earlier because less moves back-n-forth would be required by teams. because of the expanded & more flexible rosters.

This isn't a league vote just food for thought guys while our offseason is drawing quickly to a close.

I'm glad someone brought these issues up. I can't see any good reason to stay at the $200 M salary cap. I always assumed we were unlimited salary, it just wasn't an available strat option. Now it is.

On the roster size, I think we should increase our rosters to strat's roster max. I realize this reduces the "baseball realism" aspect and puts it more towards "strat ball," but I think we proved to ourselves last year that we have trouble policing ourselves. I'm not throwing anyone under the bus here. I went over the limit myself in past seasons, it's just that no one caught it. Let's just remove the problem, and we don't have to worry about enforcing it or figuring out a "punishment."

Seems like there was some other discussion we had going last year, but I can't think of what it was, beyond the clock/no clock thing and specific draft dates...which I don't really feel like rehashing all over again. Was there something else, anyone remember?

Rick, Thanks for putting in the time on this. After reading what you have to say, I think I'd be inclined to say we should have no salary cap, but I'm leaning against expanding rosters if only because I think it's important to keep guys active. That said, I see both sides:)

My suggestions for this upcoming season are just that, suggestions. I'm obviously hoping, we as a league, would like to take these suggestions & move them forward to a formal league vote. With that being said I'm just curious Peter as to why you originally thought the 28 man roster would be a good idea but now you think otherwise?? I'm not singling you out Peter but I'm just confused by your latest post because it looked like a slight contradiction to your previous post regarding roster size. In lite of the problems we've been having with managers playing over the 25 man roster limit after injuries have concluded I would think we would want everyone on an 'even' playing field thru-out the season. I do not see an easy way of eliminating this issue other then by expanding our rosters to prevent it from happening in the first place. I know we like to keep it as 'real' as possible but by trying to keep it at 25 we can all see how a manager playing & starting a series at 26 or 27 after their team's injuries had already concluded is at an advantage over the team playing with their 25.

Feedback & thoughts are encouraged.
