LET ME CLARIFY WHEN THE PENALTY HITS and HOW IT IS implemented
Going to use MBBW as our example with BONDS.
Scenario 1 - It's round 24 and MBBW has 10 legal pitchers, 2 catchers and needs just 2 more hitters.
He gets to a letter with ONLY pitchers left. This was not stated earlier but it's obvious, for his purposes there are no players to pick for him so he gets a free skip until he gets to a letter with hitters available.
However, if he gets to a letter where there ARE hitters to choose but they are MORE than his cap allows, then THAT is where the penalty comes into play. He would have to A) Drop BONDS B) pick a hitter at the letters he's at and then C) pick another "B" to replace Bonds....the same scenario would take place if there are no more cheap "B" players
We then resume the original letter order as before.
Scenario 2 - it's round 22 and MBBW has 9 pitchers but only 2 PURE RP's and he's low on $'s. He gets to a letter where the PURE RP would eventually put him over the cap (he's left with less than $0.5 / player avaialble). He again follows the same actions as above
Scenario 3 - it's round 23 and MBBW realizes that he goofed and picked 10 pitchers but only 2 Pure RP's. In THIS scenario he would NOT have to drop Bonds. As soon as one of us catch this error we would stop the draft immediately, he would go back to the letter he last picked an SP (this is where the error occurred). If he can find an affordable PURE RP, than all is fixed. If not he'd have to follow the above protocol to fix his issue and then YES, drop Bonds to make cap room.
There are I'm sure many other unlikely scenarios that can come up which I may not have planned for but I can assure you that 99.99% of them can be prevented simply buy monitoring your $'s.
FYI, any PENALTY player dropped goes back in the pot and is free game for anyone either during this draft or later in waivers. (This is my modification to the original league I played in....in the past, that player was blackballed until after waivers). If you saved room for Barry Bonds by the time the penalty comes into play, god bless you. Your team will suck anyway
