Defensive Substitution decisions

PostMon Mar 02, 2015 12:09 pm

Would it be wise to get a 50 cent guy to replace Soler (3(-3)e14) in the late innings? Although it would be slim, there is always chance of 15 game injury for Soler late in the game.

Victor Martinez (4e15) is also a defensive liability but I'm thinking he's probably too expensive to take out of the game at 1B. Is it possible to move him to DH in the late innings?

This is my first 20xx season since 2011. I hope I will survive!

I've always been of the mind to make every penny count, so if you have to have the extra bench players, they may as well have some kind of roll, so Yeah I'd look for a defensive replacement for Soler, preferably one that also is a great pinch runner. but YMMV ;)

Thanks. I'm apprehensive about getting fast guys cause they never seem to be used as I want. For example, a guy comes in to pinch run at 3B when there are two outs. Then, the guy who was pinch ran for is replaced defensively with a 4e32 player.

I too have Soler, and going with Tony Campana as my pinch run/def replacement for Soler and crossing my fingers.

I have tried using a def replacement for Hanley Ramirez in the 2013 set, but invariably Ramirez gets pulled and my pitcher gives up the tying/go ahead run after he is gone. Not much fun seeing Brendan Ryan batting for Ramirez with the tying run aboard and 2 outs in the ninth.

It's true that pinch running can leave you with a weakness in the field. However, think of it as like pulling your goalie in hockey. You do it when you are desperate to score even though it's a risky move. Of course, I've been lucky and haven't seen HAL pinch run for someone at third with two outs either!
