One thing that's noticeably absent from Strether's lists and his evaluations is a rigoruous use of things like, yannow evidence, stats, to back his views up. Doesn't even have to be WARP which is apparently what Satan uses, but actual stats to back up claims like Arenado's defense outweighing Carpenter's on base percentage. Just as one example. So when he runs counter to the CW or the well-considered opinions of the bright people on this board, his case is well supported by evidence. Rather than well supported by his quotations of his past posts.

Actuallly, teamnasty, rigorous use of statistics have been absent from all of the arguments, including yours. So, your singling me out is silly. I have, however, used statistics to back up some of my arguments when appropriate. So, if you would actually like to critique my arguments instead of throwing hollow, irrelevant criticisms at them, I would welcome them.

Absolutely MIND BOGGLING.

Now that was getting all "lathered up."... ;)

Touche,

I've just come to see the error of my ways, but of course that won't ever stop you from pulling a post from a week ago, a month ago, or even years ago, if it will let you have the last word. ;)

Again, the absence of a statistical defense. Just things like "warp" or "fangraphs" isn't everything, without proving the assertion with objective data. No wonder you're not taken seriously.

Right now Beltre has better offense and better defense. Both Steamer & Zips projections have Beltre projected with better stats in 2015 in all offensive rate stat (avg/ob/slg/wOBA/wRC+) with Steamer projected Longoria with better defense while Zips projects Beltre as better.
Your opinion is valid. Believe whatever you want but I'm more inclined to agree with the professionals and think that Beltre will be better than Longoria this year.

Longoria may have had a drop last year, but, unlike Beltre's, it doesn't prove a decline from age. And Steamer's projections aren't God's holy truth; they are just projections that have been wrong in the past and will be wrong in the future. Your opinion is valid, as well. Believe what you want, but I'm more inclined to believe the professionals who have established that players' productions decline at 36.

Gee, that's funny, you just tried to have the last word on me. If you're going to criticize people about trying to have the last word: don't respond. It makes you look hypocritical.

And there's nothing wrong with my using your post from last week. As you yourself note, it perfectly showed you hypocritically criticized others about what you do yourself.

And I admitted as such, but the same argument you just used against me, also proves my point vis a vis, your incessant need to always have the last word.

so I invite you to do the same, not look hypocritical by not responding.

PS My original post was not aimed at just you, the whole thread has gone off the rails with circular argument.

Again, the absence of a statistical defense yourself, as well as any actual critique of my arguments. If you're going to gripe about people not using statistics, you better use them well yourself. You certainly haven't done so so far... ;)

Look at you, Niners, you're still trying to have the last word. As I said before, if you're going to complain about people trying to have the last word, stop trying to do it yourself. I never complained about it, so my responding to you doesn't make me a hypocrite.

And now you actually invite me to let you have the last word? That's hilarious. I'll try that one on my wife sometime; I'm sure it will be a huge success... ;)

I believe we have come to a conclusion on this matter. Thanks to everyone on their input.
