That was my kid crawling towards me to tell me something. Thank God he passed out or I would not have posted this and found that SP that would have taken me to the promise land. It was a good night and I will now turn off the computer and hope I don't kick my kid in the head, trip over him and not find my way to bed. Need my sleep so I can find that 2B tomorrow before my turn to draft.

What a wonderful, inapplicable story. You apparently--and surprisingly--took my post as a personal slight. I never mentioned your name and, more importantly, I never said anyone spent too much time playing SOM. I just had no idea so many people actually formulated and used such complicated math formulas to analyze players and construct their teams. Considering some managers had previously mentioned their limited time, I was even more surprised.

That being said, I don't begrudge anybody their considerable time spent on their hobbies. My cousin and one of my colleagues are rabid Fantasy football league players and put in up to 20 hours a week on it, and they seem happy. So put in as much SOM work as you want and try not to kick the kid too much... ;)

Mehhh, I'm betting you're only a 1-4 in this area too.

Yep, continually trying to round third with Clemente's (-6) against my 1-10 speed...

Always lovely to encounter such ghastly imagery right before lunch. I think it will be a light one.

Somebody please start posting more mathematical formulas so I can wipe Robby's unsavory, suggestive posts from my memory.

Somebody should start a new thread on sleeper picks. Though I'm waiting 'til Monday to start my first 2014 cards season, I do think I've snagged some sweeeeeeet bargains: Here's a few I've got:

:D Chone Figgins, platoon DH, maybe even 3B, vs. RH in pitchers' parks -- can hit leadoff or even better in the #2 hole cuz no gb(a). Only $1.75.
8-) James Shields S7*/1L/3.21/1.18 for just under $2mm seems like the steal of the year to anchor the back of a rotation.
:!: Sean Rodriguez is unique good glove @2B w/ max RH BPHR bat vs RH pitching, for a $2.38.
:) Danny Espinoza excellent OBA leadoff platoon at SS or 2B vs. LH pitching, 2e18 and 2e8, for $1.68
:? John Mayberry Jr. Max BPHR vs. LH pitching w/ respectable glove at 1B and corner OF for $1.42

I think there's a lot of great deals, especially if you've got the time to create platoons. Good pitching -- bullpen guys especially -- are plentiful. There are few real mashers anymore -- winners will grab the best bats ASAP, perhaps grab one of the 5-7 True Aces, finish off the lineup with a few key platoons, then fill in with the rest of the pitching later.

I can create them from screen captures for ATG from the online site, 3 clicks per card (cut/paste/commit),

Can you be a little more specific? Exactly what portion are you cutting/copying, where/what program are you pasting to?

I know this thread is pulling in a couple of different directions, but I didn't have the energy to start another thread for a brief observation.

That observation is this: Is it just me, or is it impossible to find hitters (even very good, high OBP hitters) who have on base rolls on all three 7s on one side of the card? Not only that, it appears there are very few guys who even have two out of three ways to get on by rolling a 7.

I don't know if I would call it a "hack" or anything, but in seasons past I would often get great bargain performances from low dollar guys who had nothing on their card but for two singles and a walk on the 7 rolls. Looking for those "sleepers" this season appears to be a little more difficult, so it makes me wonder if it was a concerted effort.

SOM COMMENTARY
I wrote the process to solve the problem that SOM has no interest in selling the ratings disk functionality as part of the CDROM game (think card image). It would be simple to add an option to the game to export the ratings disk info for any season roster you own. Charge 9.99 for the function like they do with the card image. Simple, but I digress.
SOM COMMENTARY COMPLETE

So for the leagues I play outside of the online game that use seasons that don't have available ratings disks, I wanted a way to automate generating the ratings disk info from the CDROM game.

Basically, grab a screen capture, load it into any basic OCR program and map the image so it will convert it to text by column. That was the hard part, about a 4 hours of programming. Once that was done, the text could be pasted into any document (I chose an access db table, an xls also would have worked). At that point the rest wrote itself. A simple algorithm to parse the text, and write to a database.

The process also works for the online game with a few changes to the OCR mapping template. "Easy peasy, mac and cheesy, lemon squeezy" as my little one would say :-)

The only thing I spend time on here doing is typing stupid stuff. By the way my kid got up the next morning, fed himself and got to school on time. I love that kid.
