I made some edits to the rules thread. Joining the 2015 Tour Championship is now even easier.
A brief shout-out to new/newer players regarding the 2015 Tour Championship...
The Tour Championship is an extremely fanciful way of saying "Hey! Let's play five leagues and the 36 guys with the most cumulative wins will play in three semi-finals leagues. The 12 playoff winners from those three leagues will battle in one more league to crown a Champion."
That is the Tour Championship in a nutshell.
Unfortunately, when you see the rules thread, you see this gigantic destruction of cyberspace that at one time was replaced with the two simple sentences above.
But like all good things, simple intentions sometimes turn into complicated matters that need clarification. The rules thread are those clarifications. Do not let it intimidate you, rather, just know that over several years, what might have gone wrong did, and the members of the community and the previous Commissioners and participating tour players did everything they could to fix things and make them right.
No special knowledge, skills or experience is required to play the tour leagues. Yes, the level of competition will be higher than a basic autoleague. But YOU do bring something to the table, right?
The SOM online universe is crowded with players. Some have been here a long time, and some have been here a week. If you want to get some instant credibility in the community, you will find no easier path than making a name for yourself in the tour leagues. You will regularly be bumping elbows with folks who care very deeply for the game and the community in general. I want to do everything I can to encourage you to join them.
If for whatever reason you remain intimidated by all that goes on with the tour, but you're still nevertheless somewhat intrigued, I have an offer for you.
Tour leagues require 12 managers in a league, and very often there will be one remaining league with less than 12 managers signed up. This league needs FILLERS. I will be posting requests for names to be fillers as we approach the April tour start dates. Although the Official Tour Sign-Up sheet feels a lot like "Commitment", actually all it is, is an informal way to say "Hey! I'm ready to play!" In fact, some managers who signed up, for whatever reason, fail to finish the four plus tour events. There are no penalties or monetary losses for "not playing" other than losing out on the chance to play in the Tour playoffs and maybe win some prizes.
I encourage you to join the tour and sign up today. There are no obligations other than purchasing and fielding a team. But if you would rather, sign up to be a tour filler for the April leagues (a thread will be posted by me at a later date). If you decide you like it, you are still "in" and can continue to participate in the future tour events. If the tour is just not for you, you were a great help to the league and to me personally for filling out a league and "giving it a try".
One step further, you can even join the tour as late as Event Two (because to make the playoffs, you need the scores from four active seasons). So again in May (and in June, July and August) I will also be looking for fillers.
Test the tour waters by helping us out this year, and maybe reconsider joining the tour events next year if you wish.
