One manager might be trying all sorts of things because it's fun, while another might be drafting the same 9 mashers in 100m DH leagues. Ratings in an autopilot game are bs. Pretty sure it'd be a different story in face to face play. In this online version, nione of us are really managing.
You're absolutely right about context, which is why any managers rating system shouldn't be taken too seriously. However, a well-thought-out one could be useful for rough evaluations and would gratify those particularly wanting one. As to SOM online managing, it
is managing. It's an entirely different brand of managing than face-to-face managing, but it's definitely managing. Also, it involves general managing/team management skills not required by board-game play. So, SOM online managing does not necessarily require the lesser managing skill set.
