Edmonds?

PostWed Mar 25, 2015 8:03 pm

I know Edmonds gets a lot of bad press here, although I've seen him do well in parks built for lefty power. But what about righty parks? He has a couple of solid homers vs. RHP, although loses a big 1-5 roll. Any experiences good or bad with him in that kind of park? (Not doing this by choice, but maybe by necessity.)

Sounds like you might have him in a franchise league; I've always been disappointed in him in anything but a park heavily suited to lefty power like Sportsman's Park.

I know I'm not alone in saying I've used McGee in the Cards franchise lineup despite minimal power numbers because he always seems to hit well, notwithstanding the cap. Edmonds, by contrast, has put up some dreadful numbers for my squads.

I like McGee and use him often, but I think Edmonds gets the same bad rap that Joe Morgan gets sometimes.
McGee hit .353 in that 1985 MVP year, with an OBP of .384. Yes, he walked a grand total of 34 times.
Edmonds hit .301 in the 2004 season we have, with an OBP of .418, walking 101 times.

I think we don't appreciate a player as much with strong defense and OBP from Walks.

Give that card .... one .... more .... plate .... appearance .... and I would probably be more tempted to use it.

This is a much more reasonable thread than the Matt Williams thread. Surprised that it did not garner more answers. I rarely use him at live drafts but this is because I generally prefer more solid, known performers. Tom's question pretty much sums up my take on Edmonds. I've seen him deliver reasonable numbers, just not consistently.
